CYPRESS NEWS
Seventeen adults and seven boys met at eight p.m. on Friday with Lloyd Paxton of Anaheim, in an effort to re-organize the Boy Scouts in Cypress. This group was particularly interested in the Cub pack, as all the boys present were little fellows. It was heartening to see so many of the men and women interested. The sponsors are tentatively the VFW. Another meeting will be held Wednesday at eight.
A Christmas program will be held in the Cypress school auditorium on Thursday night. The program is under the direction of the music teacher assisted by the fourth, fifth and sixth grade teachers. A community sing of Christmas carols is also slated.
On Saturday night the local fire department is holding a benefit dance in the new fire station from nine until twelve o'clock. The new building will be officially "opened" on Saturday at ten in the morning for inspection.
Cypress school will have only a weeks vacation this year on account of the late opening in the fall, due to the new buildings not being ready. School closes on the seventeenth and re-opens on December 27th.
Mrs. Maybelle Dyer left Saturday for the northern part of the state to spend the holidays with her son, Rector Dyer and family, who reside in Davis.
Mrs. Walter B. Howard arrived Thursday afternoon from Oskaloosa, Iowa, to spend the holidays with her daughter, Mrs. Madge Lyen and grandson, Lynn. She is Los Angeles. Mrs. Howard will return to her home in Iowa the middle of January.
The Cypress Community Club will meet in the new fire station at noon on Tuesday, the fourteenth, for their annual Christmas dinner. Mrs. Barbara Young, Madge Lyen and Mrs. Rollin Miles will serve as hostesses for the day.
Mont Inskeep of North Walker street passed away very suddenly in Bakersfield last Saturday morning. He was found dead in bed, the cause being heart trouble. The Inskeeps are old-time residents of Cypress.
Mr. Harvey of Harvey and Cormier at the Hancock Station west of town received some very bad burns about the head, face and hands this week, when a large can of oil caught fire. In attempting to put out the fire with a fire extinguisher the flames leaped into his face. Half of the hair was burned off his head and that side and his whole face and hands are a mass of blisters. He is up and about again now and is getting along fine and the doctor reports that no scars will result.

Mrs. Walter B. Howard arrived Thursday afternoon from Oskaloosa, Iowa, to spend the holidays with her daughter, Mrs. Madge Lyen and grandson, Lynn. She is looking forward to seeing her new great-grandson at Christmas time when he and his parents will be home for the holidays from Berkeley. Mr. and Mrs. Howard spent the winter here five years ago and will be remembered by many friends. Mr. Howard is spending the holidays at Dixon, Illinois, with his daughter and family. He has been quite ill and was not able to make the long trip to California at this time. Mrs. Howard was initiated to her first earthquake on Saturday and has something to really write home about. The family is anticipating a busy holiday week as Mrs. Howard will also have a birthday celebration between Christmas and New Years. Mrs. Frank Mathes and Mrs. Lyen met Mrs. Howard at the station in
