Festival Kickoff
Dinner, Auction
Big Success
With a lively auction geared to raise funds with which to stage a bigger-and-better than-ever Hallowe'en festival, the kickoff dinner was held Friday night in the Elks club heralding the coming silver anniversary Hallowe'en celebration here.
Paul Demaree again proved a witty and versatile master of ceremonies. For the privilege of wearing "Big Wheel" button No. 1, Dr. Samuel Gendel paid $50. A total of 50 buttons were sold by auctioneer Demaree with bidders' competition running high.
New members of the Chamber of Commerce, honored during the dinner-event, were introduced by President Kenneth Hellyer. Reports of chairmen in charge of festival activities were given.
Committee heads for the twenty-fifth annual celebration were introduced by Glenn Hipes, general chairman of the festival. Chairmen include John Ardaiz, parade marshall; Clyde Nickle, whiskerino and Slick Chick contests; Al Cotler, festival costume breakfast; M. A. Gauer, kiddie parade; Al Garey, parade float chairman, and Ralph Spencer, window art contest.
Designed to conform with the Orange county fair on Oct. 28-31, the new parade route, recently scheduled, was disclosed by Ardaiz.
October 30, the parade will be featured, forming at Five Points on West Center street, then east to Los Angeles street and then north to the fair grounds at the La Palma and Palm street inter-
Gas Company Has New Appliance Sales Policy
Justin M. Kennedy, manager, Orange county division, Southern Counties Gas company, announced this week a new gas appliance sales policy inaugurated by his company the first of this month.
Abandoning the sales policy which has been in force for many years, the Southern Counties Gas company has now virtually discontinued the practice of retaining for its own account any retail sales of gas appliances. In the future, sales contracts for gas appliances sold at retail in this area by company salesman will, in most instances, be assigned to local gas appliance dealers.
"All gas appliance dealers operating on the lines of the company are invited to participate in the company's new sales program," said Mr. Kennedy.
Arrangements have been completed with various gas range manufacturers, gas water heater manufacturers and the distributors for Servel gas refrigerators, Hamilton gas clothes dryers and Calcinator incinerators, to provide display appliances for each of the company's display floors.
Mr. Kennedy announced the appointment of the following men to the position of Sales Representatives in this area:
