Harvest Sign: Better Days Ahead
The French wheat harvest promises to yield enough bread to supply the entire nation during coming fall and winter, thanks to good weather. This pastoral scene in Blois, southwest of Orléans shows peasants threshing and sacking the golden grain before carts haul it to the mill.
Toastmasters Hold Regular Meeting Monday
The regular meeting of Toastmasters club was held Monday evening at 6:30 at La Palma Grill with president R. H. Allen presiding. During the business session, announcement was made of the October 4 meeting which will be ladies night and the semi-annual installation of officers. Invoices masters club to be used as a runner-up award to be presented for the most optimistic speech of the evening.
Page Vincent presented the table topic for the evening, using for his subject "Old Quotations." Toastmaster for the evening was Robert J. Allen who introduced the speakers, the first on the program being C. O. Garshwiler who gave a six minute talk on "Open Evenings." "Gardening" was discussed for another six minutes by Marion Pickle followed by Louis Evaluator for the meet John Knutzen and grandfather was Dr. B. D. Roberts.
The next meeting will have brey Van Verst present; table topic with Royal Maidstone. Evaluator will O. Garshwiler and grandfather J. C. Thompson. Speakers Don Butka, Kenneth Heulman, Knutzen and Victor Hubbler will each speak for six minutes on the subjects they chose.

Mr. Garshwiler was awarded the Patterson trophy and also the Optimist cup for his talk.

Native Sons See Film Preview
Members of Mother Colony Parlor, Native Sons of the Golden West viewed the first showing in Orange county of the California Centennial commission's new color film, "California's Golden Beginning," Tuesday night at Harmony Park. President Clark Smith presided.
Filmed by a major film company for the Centennial Commission, the picture was released recently at a festive ceremony in Hollywood, where it was hailed as one of the finest pictorial presentations of its kind for sound and color effects. Through the courtesy of the California Centennial Commission the picture was shown here.
During the short business session preceding the showing, District Deputy Mark Waterson, past president of Arrowhead Parlor No. 110, San Bernardino, conferred with members on matters pertinent to Native Son members. The local parlor was given an award in recognition of its achievements during the past year.
In addition to Anaheim parlor members, groups from throughout the county were well represented at the special program.
Emelia Tessner Passes Away Friday
Mrs. Emelia Tessner, 80 years of age, passed away at the family home at 120 North Clementine street, on Friday, Sept. 17. Born in Silver Creek, Wis., she had been a resident of Anaheim for the past 30 years.
The deceased was a member of the Royal Neighbors Lodge and the Women's Relief Corps.

Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock with the Rev. H. G. Schmelzer, retired pastor of Zion Lutheran church, officiating at the rites held at the chapel of Backs, Campbell and Kaulbars mortuary. Entombment was in Fairhaven mausoleum.
TWO PLEAD GUILTY TO MARIJUANA CHARGE
Frank M. Venegas of Placentia pleaded guilty to charges of sale and possession of marijuana and Ruben G. Grijalva of La Jolla camp pleaded guilty to possession of the same drug last Friday. Venegas had been under suspicion for some time of selling marijuana cigarettes to boys in Anaheim and Fullerton. The applications of the pair for probation will be heard tomorrow.
IT'S A BOY!
A baby son was welcomed by Mr. and Mrs. R. C. Diemert, 244 South Walnut street, Brea, last Friday at Fullerton Cottage hospital. The new comer tipped the scales at eight pounds, six and three-fourths ounces.

Report Good Deer Hunting
Several groups of Anaheim sportsmen, who have been trying their skill at deer hunting since the opening of 'the season last Thursday, have reported successful excursions.
Sam Loard and Nick Wingert were the guests of George A. Wilson, owner of a ranch near Lake Tahoe. The local men returned home Sunday after an eight-day trip during which they joined Wilson on his annual hunting trip, complete with pack horses. George Wilson, Jr., scored a four-point deer as did Chuck Merton, Tahoe sportsman. A three-pointer was taken by Wingert and Loard nabbed a two-point deer. The party hunted on a summer cattle range.
Bill Rodenberger was one of a party of six sportsmen from this area who took five deer in the Sierra country over the weekend.
C. J. Mauerhan has returned from a trip 20 miles east of Reno. He arrived there in time for the opening of the season.
Charles Waldo and Jess Villa stalked deer in the San Jacinto mountain range west of Palm Springs over the weekend.
