75 Motor Crash Casualties in Anaheim in 1947 (Western News Service) Anaheim reported a total of 75 traffic casualties for the year 1947, according to the 1948 annual statistical report by the California Highway Patrol. Of the 17 California cities with populations in excess of 50,000 persons the city of Alameda had the lowest death rate from motor vehicle accidents with a rate of 44 deaths per million population, actually Alameda had only four deaths during the year which was a 34 per million rate decrease from 1946. San Bernardino had the highest with a 356 per million rate with 20 deaths for the year, a decrease of 107 per million rate. Cities in this class which showed increases were Santa Monica, Stockton, San Diego and Sacramento. Of the total accidents in Anaheim, 6 were fatal and 69 were personal injuries. Other cities in Orange county and their casualties are: Santa Ana, total 168; injured 199; fatal 8. Orange, total 8; injured 7; fatal 3. Newport Beach, total 59; injured 76; fatal 2. Fullerton, total 40; injured 46; fatal 0. Huntington Beach, total 51; injured 85; fatal 5. Orange county had a total of 1150 traffic accidents of all types which resulted in injuries or deaths during the year 1947, according to the report. In these accidents, 122 persons were killed and 1848 were injured. Los Angeles county with its 22,400 accidents led the state and accounted for two-fifths of the total accidents in the state. It also led in the number of deaths with 901 and in the number of persons injured with 30,459 out of a statewide total of 75,873 injured and 3,498 killed. A total of 23 hit and run cases were reported by Orange county for the year 1947. County accidents which involved drivers who had been drinking totalled 144 during the year 1947. Of these accidents, 10 were fatal and 134 resulted in personal injuries. Throughout the state drunken drivers caused 4,772 accidents resulting in 384 deaths and 4388 injuries. Gibson Takes Speech Trophy Speaking honors went to Page Gibson, new member of the Anaheim Toastmasters club, during the regular dinner-meeting at La Palma Grill Monday night, president R. H. Allen presiding. The well polished Patterson trophy went to Gibson for his autobiographical presentation. Alfred Holve, table chairman, presented the subject "Subsidies." Toastmaster for the evening was Ed Wright, Royal Marten was evaluator and C. J. Stillson, the grammarian. Extemporaneous speaker Kenneth Heuler discussed "Anaheim Moves Ahead." Hursel Snyder gave a dissertation, "Accidents Don't Happen;" C. O. Garshwiler discussed "Federal Subsidies," and John Knutzen spoke on "The Land Down Under." A second small cup, to be presented each week to the Patterson trophy runner-up, will be given to the Toastmasters by the Anaheim Optomists club, beginning next week at 6:30 p.m., at the Grill, it was announced. Wins Snapshot Prize with Photo Of Trained Pets With a picture of a Collie holding a bottle of milk for a goat, William L. Lytle of Yorba Linda won first prize in the Animal class in the sixth week of the Los Angeles Times-sponsored amateur snapshot contest Monday. Lytle, Yorba Linda rancher and electrician, began his collection of Collies many years ago when he rescued a young Collie pup which had been entrapped in the oil of a well sump. He washed off and began to train it and has been highly successful in training dogs ever since. Photographing his pets is a more recent hobby.
