To Celebrate White Gold Day
The second annual White Gold Day will be celebrated in Cypress September 18, it was announced this week, by one of the biggest parades ever attempted west of Orange county.
Invitations to participate have been issued to organizations, educational groups, business firms, bands and mounted units in the area surrounding Cypress, and many well known civic leaders have been asked to be present also. The carnival last year was a social success and returned a satisfactory profit and a reservoir of enthusiasm and anticipation for the event which it is hoped will be multiplied this year.
This project was born a year ago when residents and merchants in Cypress, who wished to provide the children with a recreation park, staged the first White Gold Day. Using as its theme milk, or White Gold, the idea is symbolic of the dairy industry, in the center of which Cypress is geographically located. Children are also part of the theme, for to think of milk is to think of children, for whose benefit this festival is undertaken.
In addition to the big parade in the morning, features of the day will include a carnival, a barbecue dinner served from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., and valuable free gifts.
Farmers Asked to Suggest Research Topics for Group
A progress report by the state's Agricultural Research Study committee will be made and requests for agricultural research not already made will be heard at two meetings to be held by the committee during August. The first meeting will be held Monday, August 16, at the Grant school auditorium in Riverside, and the second August 19 and 20 at Hilgard Hall, University of California, Berkeley. The meetings are open to all farm people.
The committee which was created by the state Legislature two years ago and has held ten public meetings, recorded over 2000 requests for specific research work and has made in its reports to the governor and the Legislature 12 general recommendations for carrying out future research programs.
