Upon his ordination to the Baptist ministry in 1923, he became pastor of the First Baptist church, Sprinfield, Mass. He remained there seven years and in 1930 came to the First Baptist church of Los Angeles, which had a debt of more than $300,000. The mortgage was burned in 1944.
