That off-street parking is convenient will be testified to by a local police officer who took advantage of the west end Alpha Beta store facilities by parking a stray saddle horse there last Friday, until its owner, Dave Booms, 8741 Loara road, collected the wanderer from the asphalted tethering place later that evening.

FOR JULY 25
Famous Friendships Typify Brotherhood Ideal at Its Best
VERY school boy knows the story of Damon and Pythias, the two Greeks so loyal to each other in mutual affection that they have typified in the world's life and literature the deepest and strongest relationship between man and man.
They exemplified the words of Jesus, many years before they were uttered—"Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends." In that famous story, of course, the loyalty of Damon and Pythias for each other was the means of saving them both.
Pythias, condemned to die by Dionysius, obtained leave to visit his home and left Damon as hostage. But Pythias was delayed and returned barely in time to save Damon. But even a tyrant was not immune to such a show of affection, and Dionysius paroned Pythias.
The outstanding example of much friendship in the Bible is the story of David and Jonathan. In this case the friendship was the more remarkable in view of the jealous hatred of David on the part of Saul, the King of Israel and Jonathan's father. The kindest thought concerning Saul is that he had become mentally damaged, for in lucid and generous moments he abjured his vengeful feelings and his attempts to kill David to manifest some affection.
The situation might have put a severe strain on both friends. David was resentful toward Jonathan because of his father's hostility, and Jonathan took the part of his father. But their friendship had its roots in a fine integrity of character and withstood every Ask Leave to Spend Millions On New Gas Line
The Southern California Gas company and Southern Counties Gas company have made application to the Federal Power Commission in Washington, D.C., for authorization to increase the delivery capacity of the California segment of the Texas-California pipeline by 100 million cubic feet of gas a day. Present capacity is 305 million cubic feet a day; the companies plan to increase this to 405 million cubic feet.
The proposed increase in facilities includes over 100 miles of 30 inch pipeline and additional compressor capacity at the Blythe compressor station. The application estimates that the new construction would cost over $10 million. The companies intend to begin construction in November, 1948 and to complete it in two stages, so that the capacity of the present line west of the connection with El Paso Natural Gas company at the California-Arizona boundary will be increased to 405 million cubic feet by October, 1951. This is equivalent to the energy delivered daily by eight dams the size of Hoover Dam.
The El Paso Natural Gas company recently applied to the F. P. C. for permission to supply the extra 100 million feet of gas to the two California companies as well as an additional 80 million cubic feet to the Arizona-New Mexico area.

The situation might have put a severe strain on both friends. David was resentful toward Jonahan because of his father's hostility, and Jonathan took the part of his father. But their friendship had its roots in a fine integrity of character and withstood every test, until the day Jonathan died with his father in battle.
Such friendship is brotherhood at its best and typifies the relationship that would exist between all men. Despite our much talk of brotherhood the world is far from the attainment of that high ideal. Even in the most progressive nations we have a long way to go before all men recognize one another as brothers. But such attainment would be little more than democracy at its best, and it is something toward which we must strive.
CHRISTIAN SCIENCE
The Golden Text of the Sunday Lesson-Sermon on "Truth" in all branches of The Mother Church, The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, is from Deuteronomy and reads, "Ascribe ye greatness unto our God. He is the Rock, his work is perfect: for all his ways are judgment: a God of truth and without iniquity, just and right is he."
According to John's Gospel, "A certain nobleman... besought" Jesus "that he would come down, and heal his son; for he was at the point of death... Jesus saith unto him, Go thy way; thy son liveth. And the man believed 'the word that Jesus had spoken unto him, and told him, saying, Thy son liveth... Yesterday at the seventh hour the fever left him. So the father knew that it was at the same hour, in the which Jesus said unto him, Thy son liveth: and himself believed, and his whole house."
Mary Baker Eddy says in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures:" "Truth is God's remedy for error of every kind, and Truth destroys only what is untrue. Hence the fact that, to-day, as yesterday, Christ casts out evils and heals the sick."
