Famous Handler Of Snakes Fatally Bitten Continued from Page 1 their venom glands—I don't want to hurt or mutilate an animal, for I'm trying to find facts." She repeatedly had demonstrated revolutionary theories about taming deadly snakes and frequently furnished and handled them for film studios. Once curator of the Museum of Natural History in Minneapolis, Mrs. Wiley was field collector in entomology for the University of Kansas when she became interested in snakes. In 1937, she moved to Long Beach, where in partnership with John Dunham, she assembled a collection of the world's most venomous reptiles. She later istounded scientists by taming and handling king cobras and fer-de-lance, specimens of which were at her Cypress zoo. Her collection also included puff adders, an Australian black snake, coral snakes, moccasins, copperheads, many varieties of rattlers and a pair of Gila monsters. Mrs. Wiley had lived at Cypress during the past year and a half. She had been a widow for several years. Her mother, Mrs. Mary Gough, 87, of Cypress, and a sister, Mrs. Elsie Bendowski of Long Beach survive her. She was born 66 years ago at Chanute, Kans. A call for an ambulance was telephoned from Cypress to the Anaheim police department shortly after 3 p.m., but by the time a Crane ambulance could reach the Wiley home Mrs. Wiley had been taken to Long Beach. Install 100F Rebekah Lodge C. R. Nelson and C. B. Brandt, district deputy grand patriarch of the Grand Encampment. The past grand jewel was presented to Mildred Read, junior past grand, by Mrs. Mable Prine, her mother. Dave Gillison gave the past noble grand jewel to his son, James Gillison. Gifts went to installing staff members and to the noble grand and vice grand of both lodges. Hostess chairman for the evening was Marie Cannon. The Odd Fellows wore dark suits. The Lois Rebekah installation ceremony was impressive with the staff of 12 guards attired in pink and green formals and carrying silver horse shoes. Green formals of lace were worn by the deputy grand president and marshal. Other grand officers were attired in white gowns.
