Honor Students From Anaheim at FJC Graduation Special honors went to four students from Anaheim, who graduated in an impressive outdoor ceremony, Sunday afternoon before a capacity audience filling the grandstands on the campus. Miss Wanda Rinehart served as one of the class speakers and Donald Roy Betzsold, Paul Patrick Deasy nad John Wesley Hein, all received permanent membership in the college's chapter of Alpha Gamma Sigma, California junior college honor society for scholastic achievement. A total of 70 Anaheim sophomores were among the students who comprised the record sized class of 1948 to receive their Associate of Arts degree. Thirty-six towns in Orange and Los Angeles counties were represented. Of these students, 214 were veterans. Miss Rinehart discussed "Home and the Family" as a portion of the general subject, "A View of the Class of 1948." The processional, "Grand March from Aida," and the recessional, "War March of the Priests," was played by the college band, under the direction of George Burt, instructor of instrumental music. Rev. J. Maxwell Chamberlin, pastor of the First Methodist church of Fullerton, gave the invocation for the thirty-fourth commencement. Three choral selections, "Service," "Navy Hymn" and "Battle Hymn of the Republic" were sung by the combined voices of the A cappella choral group, men's glee club, women's chorus, mixed chorus, voice classes and vocal ensembles, under the baton of C. Earl Narramore, instructor of vocal music. The commencement greeting was by Superintendent T. Stanley Warburton. Director William T. Boyce presented the class of 1948 and announced awards and scholarships. Ralph C. Shook, president of the college board of trustees, conferred the Associate of Arts degrees. The singing of the "Alma Mater," by students and alumni, led by John Morris, was followed by the benediction given by Rev. Chamberlin. Class president William Crupp introduced the speakers, Miss Rinehart, Richard Feddersohn, who discussed "Feelings on International Affairs"; David Sherwin who spoke on "Concepts of Democracy," and Ethel Mae Goodwin who presented "Tastes, Attitudes and Ideals."
