With 'Holiday Stage' at Tustin Joanne Hockaday, Santa Ana business woman, this week joined the public relations division of Holiday Stage, professional summer stock company, for its second season of productions in Tustin. Directed by Ken Carmichael, Miss Hockaday will supervise all radio publicity and advertising and will serve the society editors of Orange county newspapers. Her immediate assignment, however, calls for assisting Florence Turney, treasurer, in filling the rush of mail orders for season tickets to the series of plays at Tustin. Miss Hockaday received her major stage training at the Pasadena Playhouse together with Norman Mennes and Barry McGee, art and technical directors for Holiday Stage. Non-Tillage or Tillage? Tour To Offer Answer The Agricultural Extension Service has arranged a tour for Orange county citrus growers next Tuesday, June 8, which may help them make up their minds about cultivation or non-cultivation. The tour will take in four large ranches in Ventura county where growers can make their own answers as to whether non-cultivation increases or decreases yields and what are the advantages and disadvantages. The tour has been arranged by Dick Puffer, assistant farm advisor, so that growers can compare cultivated plots along with clean-culture plots. Those taking the tour will meet at 6:30 a.m., at Buena Park. The 'H.M.S. Pinafore' By Pasadena Co., At FUHS, Success Before a small but appreciative audience of Anaheim, Fullerton and Pasadena residents, Gilbert and Sullivan's popular light opera, "H.M.S. Pinafore" was staged by the Pasadena Community Opera Association, Saturday night, in the Fullerton high school auditorium. Gordon Wood, former director in the Federal Theatre and recently contracted to Paramount Pictures, was stage director for the performance. Miss Charlyne Herbey, associated with Columbia Pictures, is the Pasadena company's choreographer. Effective introductory and interactive music was interpreted by talented string and woodwind players, augmented by an organ and piano, under the direction of Edgar L. Moulton, former director of the Schenectady Light Opera Company. The role of the rheumatic and pompous Rt. Hon. Sir Joseph Porter, K.C.B., was cleverly emphasized by John Dowty, who won enthusiastic applause. Duke Marston's voice lent well to the role of Captain Corcoran. John Waterman was convincing as Ralph Rackstraw. Katherine Schlinger, soprano, made a charming and provocative Josephine, the captain's daughter, and Dorothy Shaw Broder was applauded for her portrayal of the versatile role of Mrs. Cripps, the well known "Little Buttercup." A rather mild Dick Deadeye was found in John Waterman. Phil Spaulding played the part of Bill Bobstay, the boatswain, and Jeanette Thaver, that of Hebe. The motorcade will move at 7 a.m. Participants are advised to take their own lunches and beverages. All growers are invited. The tour will include Camulos, Limonera, Ventura Coastal Lemon and Utt Development company ranches. They have experimented with many new citrus practices and their managers gladly impart to other growers what they have learned. Proud parents are Mr. and Mrs. Gerard Callens, 12142 Cerritos street, Anaheim, who welcomed a baby son, Saturday, at St. Joseph hospital. When in need of job printing call the Anaheim Gazette.
