Social and Club Activities GRACE THOMPSON Phone 2206 Returns From New York With English Aunt Mrs. Barbara Kilduff, wife of James R. Kilduff, returned home Tuesday morning after a three-weeks trip to New York. She met her aunt, Miss Theo Johnston of Seaford Sussex, England, who arrived in New York aboard the S. S. American, U. S. passenger line, April 29, on her premier visit to this country. Leaving Anaheim April 21, the local owner of the Junior Rendezvous combined pleasure with buying for her business. Enthusiastic approval of cross-country sights and the friendliness of Americans was given by Miss Johnston. In a leisurely journey, the two visited friends in Philadelphia, Pa., in Ohio, in Kansas City and enjoyed seeing friends and relatives in La Mar and Denver, Colorado. Beautiful weather, spring landscapes and little rain were reported by Mrs. Kilduff. Peacetime rationing in England which effects, among other items, food and clothing, is expected to continue for some time, said Miss Johnston, who remarked upon the abundance of commodities here. Although some Englanders have all speeches were based on the general theme of International Toastmistress clubs, "America in 1948." Mildred Kellogg of Fullerton discussed "Let's Find a Way to Permanent World Peace"; Mrs. Peg Hendrick of Corona spoke on "Women in 1948," and Florence Wasson of Fortnighters, Santa Ana, presented "Propaganda." "This is Good" was the topic of Alda Lambert of Santa Ana. Mrs. Briscoe will o to the coguncil speak-off June 11, in Long Beach. The winner will compete in the international competition in Spokane, Washington. Victor Huber of Anaheim, Ernest Crosier Phillips, Santa Ana, and Peter Johnson, Fullerton, were the judges. Verna Kunze, Fortnighters, gave the invocation while Florence Spencer of Anaheim, led the pledge of allegiance; Louis Perak, Santa Ana, gave the address of welcome; Shirley Seacord was toastmistress; Jack Mott of Corona, ice-breaker; Nell Clayson, also of Corona, lexicologist; Beth B. Sterns, Daylight, Santa Ana, timekeeper, and Lois Rees Auer was evaluator. Hostesses were Irene Kelley, Fortnighters; Florence Leck, Fullerton; Eva Gooden, Anaheim: Laura Chambess, Daylight; Emma Harker, Corona, and Ora K. Heine, Santa Ana. Seniors to Preserve Madonna Night At Marywood In keeping with Marywood school traditions, an improvised Madonna evening will be provided by seniors of the Catholic institution, tomorrow (Friday at 8:15 o'clock in the auditorium). An address by Crosby will open the program. Tableau by tableau, famous donnas will be portrayed with "Queen of the Air" featuring Dolores Peltzer, Elena Stagg, Shirley Robbins Nancy Whaley, and Barbara Tonkin. Known throughout the world circles of culture other than tableaux will be living relics of the art. Titian's "Preserve of the Virgin" will be given Diane Peltzer and Dolores Tonkin, reader; M. M. Nealis' "Matutina," by Gloria Becker and Patricia Coffin, reader; Perdrau's "Mater Admira" with Rebecca Woodford and ice Kraemer, reader. Fluor, Bride Back From Week's Honeymoon Trip Just returned from their honeymoon trip are Mr. and Mrs. Fred C. Fluor of 2507 North Main street, Santa Ana, who plighted their troth in an informal ceremony in Las Vegas, Nevada, May 5. Fluor, the son of the late J. Simon Fluor of Santa Ana, is general superintendent and director on the board of the Fluor Corporation, Los Angeles. His bride is the former Mrs. Loneta E. Lathrope, 241 West Santa Fe street, Fullerton, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. M. R. Shill of the same address. The noon marriage ceremony, marked by quiet simplicity, was read by Rev. R. E. Wessel, Lutheran church pastor of that city. For the occasion, the new Mrs. Fluor chose a two-piece Navy blue sheer ensemble and matching accessories. 150 Attend Area Speech Contest Mrs. Vera Gilbert of Anaheim represented the local Toastmistress club at the area speech contest in the Community Center clubhouse in Santa Ana last Tuesday evening. Twelve members of the Anaheim group, headed by Mrs. S. K. Watters, president, were among the more than 150 representatives from the three Santa Ana clubs, Fullerton and Corona. Topic chosen by Mrs. Gilbert was "A New Frontier." Winner of the address of welcome; Shirley Seacord was toastmistress; Jack Mott of Corona, ice-breaker; Nell Clayson, also of Corona, lexicologist; Beth B. Sterns, Daylight, Santa Ana, timekeeper, and Lois Rees Auer was evaluator. Aid Society Enjoys Event The home of Mrs. Gus Spies, 829 South Claudina street was the scene of the regular meeting of the Missionary Aid Society of the Grace Lutheran church, last Thursday afternoon. The affair began with a 1:30 o'clock dessert course of Brown Bobbies, ribbon jello and coffee. Mrs. B. E. Baumbach, president of the society, presided during the business session. Devotions were led by Mrs. C. A. Benzil, who based her prayer and discussion on First Corinthian. Songs for the day were "Go With Jesus to Thy Task" and "Crown Him With Many Crowns." Spring flowers decorated the living and dining rooms. In honor of the group's Mother's Day observance, Mrs. W. Brown was given a beautiful bouquet of pink roses by Mrs. Baumbach, for being the oldest mother present. Nineteen members and guests enjoyed the meeting. Mrs. Earl Talley of Los Angeles was introduced. The lesson presented by Mrs. Baumbach, was "Health—Responsibilities and Christian Citizenship." Barbara Greder On Tour With Aqua Parade Miss Barbara Greder, 18, daughter of George B. Greder, 17541 Peralta Hills drive, Santa Ana canyon, will tour throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico and Hawaiian Islands with the Buster Crabbe Aqua Parade of 1948. The show opened Tuesday of last week in Philadelphia, Pa. Well known in Anaheim, Miss Greder was given a letter of introduction to Eddie Printz, Warner Brothers dance and aqua parade director by Mrs. Lenoir Mar represented the local Toastmistress club at the area speech contest in the Community Center clubhouse in Santa Ana last Tuesday evening. SENIORS TO PRESENT 'Madonna Night' AT MARYWOOD IN keeping with Marywood high school traditions, an impressive Madonna evening will be presented by seniors of the Catholic girls' institution, tomorrow (Friday) at 8:15 o'clock in the school hallitorium. An address by Sue Osby'will open the program. Tableau by tableau, famous Maenas will be portrayed beginning with "Queen of the Angels" featuring Dolores Peltzer and Anna Stagg, Shirley Roberts, Nancy Whaley, and Barbara Layman. Kraemer, reader, will give Raphael's "Madonna del Gran Duca." Raphael's "Sistine Madonna" will be portrayed by LaVerne Bashara and Joan Menges, reader. Murillo's painting, "Immaculate Conception," will be portrayed by Patricia Coffin and Barbara Schilling, reader. "Our Lady of Guadalupe" will be staged by Elvera Navarro and Gloria Beninato; "Our Lady of Lourdes" by Joan Menges and Dolores Peltzer, reader, and "Our Lady of Fatima," by Barbara Layton and Marilyn Yorba, reader. A musical program of Marian hymns will comprise the second portion of the annual program. Meery. Mamie Lane New President Credit Women's Club The high point for business for the regular monthly meeting of the Northern Orange County Credit Women's club was the annual election of officers. At the final tabulation of votes, Miss Mamie Lane was unanimously elected president of the group for 1948-1949. Named as vice president was Doris Archibald of Fullerton. She is employed with Ward-Hermington Law.
