CHRISTIAN SCIENCE "Let not him that is deceived trust in vanity; for vanity shall be his recompence." This verse from Job will be the Golden Text of the Sunday Lesson-Sermon on "Unreality" in all branches of The Mother Church, The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston. Mark's Gospel reports that Jesus saw the disciples "tolling in rowing; for the wind was contrary unto them; and about the fourth watch of the night he cometh unto them, walking upon the sea, ... and saith unto them, He of good cheer: it is 1; be not afraid. And he went up unto them into the ship; and the wind ceased; ... And when they were gone out of the ship, straightway they knew him. And ran through the whole region round about, and began to carry about in beds those that were sick, ... and besought him that they might touch if it were but the border of his garment; and as many as touched him were made whole." Mary Baker Eddy says in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures:" "Jesus walked on the waves, fed the multitude, healed the sick, and raised the dead in direct opposition to material laws." "Mortals will some day assert their freedom in the name of Almighty God." Dropping their present beliefs, they will recognize harmony as the spiritual reality and discord as the material unreality." March 8th, had a thunder storm and heavy rain last night everything is flooded this morning surrounded with water. Was in his orange orchard yesterday and plucked my first orange tree the tree. It is a beautiful tree to see the golden fruit amid glossy foliage of the tree and fruit is a little better than it has been shipped two thousand miles. Was down to see Mc this morning and he was looking rather on account of too much irrigation they were all well though raining hard again and looked though I should not be able to much of this "Sunny Clime" don't clear off pretty soon. The country around here very nice and I think after a day of sunshine will be delightful but at present there is no mud than beauty. I plucked a geranium bloom from a plant that had lived of doors all winter, this morning so of course it can't have very cold here, compared to points east, but I think this city try has been over rated in most respects. There is not near the profusion raising fruit here that the nailed would have you think, and angles sold by the grower at $ per box are not very remunerative; and yet here in the orchard home, you can not buy oranges from the dealer for less than what they cost in Iowa. The good, fair sized oranges retail 25 cents per dozen. Here 50 cents per dozen. So there seems to really no inducement to come here and eat oranges. You get them cheaper at home. All kinds of fruit grow and luxuriantly here and the peppers grow grapes, apricots, peaches plums, etc., but do not seem to raise any thing else except the price of their lilies They make money by advantage that at the rate of about $1.00 per day; and the rest of time they spend hunting and "Tenderfeet." Went home in the morning where Mac was trying to turn the wash from ditch so that it would not pass through his yard. The weather very fine this morning. The mountains stand out in full sight, the sun shines warm and the air very refreshing. Took a sketch of "Old Balloon" from in front of Albert's place in the afternoon, Mc, Albert and myself walked up to the obstacle farm and back, a tramp of 6 miles. They shot several rabbits and we saw two coyotes. I saw my first jack rabbit this morning but have not hunted much.Found a Tarantula nest and dug it but nobody seems to be much afraid of them. The bug was not the nest but seemed to be peaably inclined, however I killed him all the same.
