LA HABRA NEWS
A meeting of interested citizens of La Habra was held in the city hall Wednesday evening, February 18, for the purpose of selecting committees for the youth program benefit barbecue. Several officers were selected including Mrs. Dee Erwin, vice chairman; Ed. Needham, secretary; Mrs. David Starr, corresponding secretary, and L. C. Wicker, treasurer.
A committee consisting of Guy Steele, Jim Showler and Bill Rentz was appointed to select a general chairman. It was later announced that John Paul Jones had been selected for the office of general chairman, on account of his very successful chairmanship of the Candl-habra Lane festival last Christmas. Mr. Jones will select the chairmen for the program, barbecue and publicity committees. The barbecue, the date to be announced later, is planned to raise money for recreational facilities for La Habra boys and girls.
Funeral services were conducted for Mrs. Gladys Irene Peterson, 122 North McPherson, Saturday afternoon, February 21, at the Coleman mortuary, with Rev. G. M. Baergen officiating. Mrs. Peterson died Wednesday, February 18, at her home, at the age of 43. She was president of La Habra Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, and member of Harmony Rebekah Lodge of Montebello and La Habra Women's Relief Corps. In her 7½ years residence in La Habra, Mrs. Peterson had become well known and highly interested in community affairs.

and Mrs. Riley L. Blurton, East Erna, were honored with either party on the occasion of the silver wedding anniversary day, February 19, at the La Masonic Temple. Ina Lyle, grand matron, 80th disbanded was a special guest at the event. The wedding cake, baked by Matron Nettie Camp, and beautifully decorated by Newman, was served to 35 friends of the couple.
The fifth Sunday meeting of California Missionary Baptists will be held Friday evening, February 27, and Saturday morning, afternoon and evening, February 28, at the First Mission-aptist Church in this city.
Separations for a "white elephant" sale were begun here this week with the collection of furnitures and other goods which are repaired, painted and readied resale. La Habra Boyds will prepare this merchandise and the proceeds from the sale will be used for remodeling court hall property.
Ms. Oeff, minister of the church of Christ, Fullerton, will preach in a revival at the Church of Christ, North Lemon street, La Habra, ending Sunday, February 29.
B. Tidwell of Buena Park added the sermon for the youth of the First Missionary Ban.

ROYAL NEIGHBOR DISTRICT MEETING TO BE HERE
The Rosewood Camp No. 6250 Royal Neighbors are having the district meeting here Monday night at 8 o'clock in the KC hall. All surrounding camps will take part in the program, it was announced. Students of Mrs. Anna Siegel of the Anaheim Conservatory of Music will represent the local group during the varied event. All Royal Neighbors are cordially invited to attend.
REAL ESTATE LICENSE ISSUED
Gordena Ann Troutman, 210 N. Olive street, Anaheim, was issued a real estate brokers license during January, the State Division of Real Estate today announced.
ELECT CHANDLER VETS CLUB PRESIDENT
Odra "Chuck" Chandler of Anaheim, was re-elected president of the Fullerton Junior College Vets club, a highly active organization which, last semester, aided financially with the eye operation for a small Santa Ana girl, the daughter of a veteran, and held a gala benefit Christmas party for underprivileged Orange county youngsters.

A baby daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. Everett Henderson, 115 South Ohio street, Anaheim, Sunday at the Anaheim Community hospital. The newcomer weighed eight pounds, three and one-half ounces.

Senior Ebell Meetings Set
A special luncheon program highlights the Anaheim Senior Ebell club program next Monday afternoon beginning at 12:30 o'clock in the clubhouse. Reservations should be made by Saturday noon it was announced. Dr. C. C. Engleman, luncheon speaker, will discuss "Education for Cancer Control." At 2 o'clock Anne Rambeau, flyer, traveler, lecturer, will speak on "Trinidad Tales."
The Bridge section will meet March 12 and 26 at 1:30 o'clock. Mrs. Samuel Gendel is the leader, Mrs. Homer Wallace, assistant leader, and Mrs. Ralph F. Adams, instructor.
March 15, the Bible section will meet at 2 o'clock in the clubhouse with Rev. L. C. Eifert, pastor of the Zion Lutheran church, speaking on "Trial and Crucifiction of Christ." Mrs. H. A. Johnston is the leader, and Mrs. Juanita Ross, assistant leader. A tea hour will conclude the program.
The Toastmaster section will meet Wednesday, March 17, with Mrs. Albert Raymond, leader, welcoming the group, assisted by Mrs. O. S. Floan. Twenty minute talks will be "Better Speech" by Mrs. Harry Horn; "Gardening," Mrs. Gene Frantz, and "Fishing" by Miss Adeline Curtis. A social hour will follow.
The book section will meet March 22 for a 1 o'clock pot-luck luncheon. Mrs. B. A. Arnold is the leader and Mrs. E. C. Kendrick, assistant leader. The program will be announced later.
Col. A. W. Shutter To Return Here As Forum Speaker
Col. Arnold W. Shutter appears again on the Anaheim Forum Monday evening after o'clock in the high school auditorium. Presenting natural motion pictures, he will lead "The Mississippi River," and give the history of the story from the first attempts at navigation on the river present day enterprises.
Scenes in the film give orama view of the river from Ohio to the Gulf with glimpses into ante-bellum such cities as Memphisburg, Natchez and Baton Rouge.
Col. Shutter, an American citizen by birth, was brought Switzerland, acquiring threeeign languages before he English. He returned to the United States to complete his education and holds an AB degree.Yale university and the Anglo-America from the University of Minnesota where he taught modern language despite while continuing his high studies.
Both on the east and west he has instructed in elemnts and military academies.

Mr. and Mrs. A. F. Weber of 8571 Hanson road became the parents of a baby boy Sunday at the Fullerton Cottage hospital.
WRC Name Officers For New Term
Mary Hatfield was elected president of the Women's Relief Corps Tuesday following a pot luck luncheon. More than 30 members and friends attended the affair.
Mrs. Emma Schauer was named vice-president; Mary Ashenfelter, secretary; Mary Swindler, treasurer, and press correspondent, Ella Jacobs. Following the election, the new officers were installed with Mamie Brumagim the installing officer. The installation was held at this time since the group did not hold a January meeting at which time they usually elect their new officers.
The door prize was won by Lydia Thiel and Cora Stewart was presented the raffle prize. Co-hostesses for the meeting were Mamie Brumagin, Mary Hatfield and Mary Fordyce.
Plans were made for work to be done at the next meeting in March to be held at the home of Emma Schauer on South East street.
Late Pioneer First Rose Queen
The first rose queen of the Pasadena fiesta, 1896, which became the now famous Tournament of Roses, was the late Mrs. Nellie A. Lloyd of the pioneer Orange county Col. J. Tuffree family, who died last Saturday of last week at her ranch home, Placentia.
Prior to her death, Mrs. Lloyd had resided at the home of her son, Hubert, 3873 Berry Drive, North Hollywood. Her ancestors were among the first white settlers in southern California. Funeral services were conducted Wednesday of last week with interment in Fairhaven cemetery.

Chests of 4724 X-Rayed in Two Weeks Survey
Free chest X-ray examinations were given to 4724 persons in Orange county in a two weeks' survey just completed by the Orange county Tuberculosis and Health association, Frank Henderson, executive secretary reported this week.
Primary objective of the survey was to examine school boys and girls and industrial workers but a great many other persons took advantage of the opportunity for a check-up.
The X-ray films will be read by a chest specialist and a report on his findings will be mailed to the address of the persons examined.
Company K’s New Armory About To Be Moved Here

Charles MacClosky Co., San Francisco, was low bidder for moving 16 two-story barracks buildings and one warehouse from Terminal Island Naval station to 12 locations for the California National Guard, asking $623,700 for the job. Anaheim is included in the list of cities to receive the barracks buildings, which will be used as National Guard structures. Buildings will also be moved to Fullerton and Orange.

Mrs. W. C. Kelley of Riverside was a weekend visitor in the home of her sister, Mrs. R. F. Nipper and Mr. Nipper of 213 East Water street. Mr. Kelley drove over Sunday evening and she returned home with him.

Mr. and Mrs. Charles Endicott of Rt. 2, 1240 La Palma, welcomed a baby daughter, Jill Louise, last Friday at the Fullerton hospital. Her grandparents are Mrs. J. A. Endicott and J. W. Show, both of Anaheim.
