Veterans who have had overseas service can enlist in one of the eight U. S. Army units now stationed in the United States and be guaranteed three years service with that unit.
These units and their present locations are:
2nd Infantry Division, Fort Lewis, Washington; 2nd Armored, Camp Hood, Texas; 2nd Engineer Special Brigade, Fort Worden, Washington; 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, North Carolina; 3rd Armored, Fort Knox, Kentucky; 4th Infantry Division, Fort Ord, California; 5th Infantry, Fort Jackson, South Carolina, 9th Infantry, Fort Dix, New Jersey.
The duties of the men enlisting for these units will be to help build up the defensive strength of the Army within the Zone of Interior, and to assist in the training of recruits.
While there is no guarantee that these divisions will remain in the United States for the next three years there is every reason to believe that they will. This will be of interest to many veterans who have expressed a desire to enlist for duty in this country.
Veterans without overseas duty can enlist for direct assignment to the European Theater, or can choose any of the five famous combat divisions now stationed in Japan or Korea. The latter include the 11th Airborne Division and the 6th, 7th, 24th and 25th Infantry Divisions. There also are enlistments open from time to time.
Balsa Butchers Have Hopes Of Anaheim Site
Big grins were worn by young and older members of the Anaheim Balsa Butchers, model airplane builders and fliers, as city council members indicated a go ahead sign to model exercising within city limits.
Urged by a local official, the councilmen suggested a Placentia and Vermont area of several acres as a suitable spot for 70-foot flying circles. The club members agreed with celerity.
Plans are being launched for a combined development of the land through cooperation of the city, adult club advisors and Balsa Butchers.
Since the South La Palma street field was closed to their use, the youngsters and adult enthusiasts had been using a portion of the Fullerton airport for model exhibitions.
S. Army. Kirkpatrick chose to serve with the Signal Corps and upon completion of his basic training at Fort Ord, California will be assigned to a Signal Corps Unit.

Salvation Army Weeks Clothing for Filipinos
Continued reports concerning real conditions in the Philippine areas recently devastated by typhoons have caused the So-P Service Department of the Station Army to swing into action a widespread effort to provide destitute and suffering Filipinos in those sections with clothing and shoes.
The need is great and immediate according to Lt. Colonel Key L. Cooke, Social Service Department secretary for the eastern territory, who came along Beach this week from his quarters in San Francisco for conference with the district manager of the department here, Mr Orlo Ellison.

We are asking for prompt and thorough contributions of light or heavy weight woolen garments of shoes. Persons of all ages, the very young to the very need new supplies of wear-ing apparel. Freedom Gardens Urged This Year
(Western News Service)
They called them victory gardens during the war, and they're freedom gardens now.
The State Department of Agriculture urges all Californians to follow the practice of war years, and plant gardens in the backyard, or on any bit of available ground.
Aim at a large garden, if possible, is the advice, and experts declare there is plenty of seed available for home use.
Food was short during the war, and is still short. The world is hungry, and a maximum of production is desired, the department said. Victory gardens, it is stated, conserved much food during hostilities, and freedom gardens will provide much food for the hungry of war stricken lands.
