Growers Urge Big Scale Research On Crop Marketing
(Continued from page 1)
for a major change in policy of the organization, it was pointed out, and unless a strong grower support is obtained the objectives implied in the letter might not be attained.
Since the growers gathered at the Farm Bureau hall last week included members of several marketing organizations, some selling independently, but a great majority in cooperatives, there was hesitation in endorsing a letter which asked the California Fruit Growers Exchange to carry out a specific program. The meeting met this difficulty by endorsing the principles expressed in the letter by applying its suggestions to the industry as a whole.
There was discussion at the meeting as to whether the fruit going into juice should be processed near the consuming public or in California and shipped to the midwest and east in frozen form. It was finally decided that this was one of the questions that administration of the venture, it was disclosed.
Harold Turney, president Holiday Stage, Inc., consented to continue as executive director and to serve as the staging director for the forthcoming production. He held these positions during the summer stock company’s premiere season at the Tustin location. Nic smooth-running highly-contrast shows were staged there last summer.
Norman Mennes, vice-president of the corporation, will supervise backstage activity, aiming to pass the standards he achieved last season with his settings in "The Glass Menagerie," "State."

Since 1849 a total of $250,000,000 has been taken from gold mines in Sierra county.
Exchange to carry out a specific program. The meeting met this difficulty by endorsing the principles expressed in the letter by applying its suggestions to the industry as a whole.
There was discussion at the meeting as to whether the fruit going into juice should be processed near the consuming public or in California and shipped to the midwest and east in frozen form. It was finally decided that this was one of the questions that should be decided by research.
During the discussion it was declared that juice processed in California and instantly frozen could be delivered to the eastern consumer with all the color and flavor of fresh juice.
Meantime Hart's Fruit Products company with a new plant at Brea last week shipped its first car of frozen "fresh" orange juice to a New Jersey dairy which will distribute it to consumers as it does its milk and milk products. But the frozen orange juice business has not yet attained great magnitude in California. One Anaheim citrus fruit processor said that under any process yet known to him the cost of freezing the product was too high and the difficulty of handling it in retail outlets was too great to make it profitable to handle.
He said he believed it would be possible eventually to sell California oranges in the form of fresh juice to eastern consumers but that it would take a huge sum of money for research and a long time to develop a profitable business from the results of the research.

Plenty OF HOT WATER AT LESS THAN HALF THE COST
It's a lucky break for Johnny—because the family laundry machine is a new automatic and the water heater is now big enough for any emergency!
Life becomes calmer with a new, do-everything laundry machine in the house!
But before you invest in one of these wonder-washers—be sure you have the kind of hot-water supply it must have to work properly. It takes about 40 gallons of 140-degree water in 80 minutes to turn out a fluffy, snow-white laundry.
And an automatic gas water heater, designed to do that very thing—costs less to buy... less to operate, too!
