World War II Victory and American Defense medals are available now according to a nouncement by Major J. S. Muir Orange County recruiting head "These medals," said Ma Muir, "may be obtained by U.S. Army veterans of World War II at the following Army and Air Force recruiting offices: 20 West Third street, Santa Ana; on hall, Fullerton; 128 South Los Angeles street, Anaheim, and Plaza Square, Orange.
Veterans are urged by Ma Muir to take advantage of this arrangement which makes a supply available locally. Original charge papers must be presented in order to obtain these medals.
The first motorist to be fined for speeding paid $10 for driving at 10 miles an hour.

Mang Services
Held Monday
Funeral services were conducted
for Mrs. Catherine Mang, 70,
Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock at
Hilgenfeld chapel. A resident of
Anaheim for 28 years, she died
early last Thursday in her apartment, 121 North Olive street, after
a prolonged illness.
She is survived by four sons,
Oscar E. Mang of Anaheim, Walter P. Mang and Herbert J. Mang,
both of Oregon, and Elmer C.
Mang of Arizona; one daughter,
Mrs. Dorothy Grabach of Ohio;
one sister, Mrs. William Reed of Utah; three brothers, George Beachler and John Beachler, both of Wyoming, and Herbert Beacler of Idaho, and four grandchildren.
Mrs. Mang was a native of Pennsylvania. Interment was in the family plot in Loma Vista Memorial Park.

Mary E. Beggs
Death Monday
Mary E. Beggs passed away at Good Samaritan hospital in Los Angeles last Monday, Nov. 3. Born in Missouri 80 years ago, she had lived in Anaheim for 26 years,
making her home at the corner of Dale and Lincoln avenues.
The deceased was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Kansas and the First Presbyterian church of Anaheim.
Left to mourn her passing are three sons, Earl W. and Lloyd L.
Beggs of Anaheim, and George R.
Beggs of Bakersfield; six daughters, Mrs. Charles Webster, Mrs.
Clyde Rush and Mrs. Irene Taylor, all of Long Beach, Mrs. Leonard Sackett of Bell, Mrs. Wm. Van Holst Tellekaan of Beverly Hills and Mrs. George Lichtenwalter of Anaheim; fourteen grandchildren,
five great grandchildren, and one sister, Mrs. Laura Shambaugh of Joplih, Mo.
Funeral services will be conducted this afternoon (Thursday) at 2 o'clock in the chapel of Backs,
Campbell and Kaulbars mortuary.
The Rev. Howard S. Congdon,
pastor of the First Presbyterian church of this city, will officiate.
Interment will be in Westminster Memorial Park.

County Teachers' Institute Here Next Monday
All schools in the Anaheim elementary and high school district will be closed Monday during the Orange County Teachers' institute and Tuesday, Armistice Day, official holiday, as will other schools in the county.
Theme of the institute will be "The United States in Today's World." The 9:15 o'clock morning session will begin in Anaheim Union high school auditorium. The school's orchestra will play two selections under the direction of William Cook. Advance of colors will be presented by the AUHS California Cadet Corps.
Don Calaway, student body president, will lead the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag, to be followed by an invocation by Rev. Rolo Dunham, pastor of White Temple Methodist church of Anaheim.
Paul H. Demaree, district superintendent and principal of Anaheim Union high school, will welcome those attending. Frank M. Wright, associate state superintendent of public instruction, will extend the greetings. Introductions will be by Linton T. Simmons, superintendent of Orange county schools, who will preside during the institute.
"The Hope of Peace in One World" will be the topic of Dr. Robert J. Kerner, state professor of modern European history at the University of California at Berkeley.
Following the noon recess from 11:45 to 2 o'clock with general luncheon in the cafeteria at noon and organization luncheons will be Dr. John A. Vieg, professor of government and chairman of the department of government at Pomona college, Claremont; and Dr. A. N. Cheleden, attorney-at-law, formerly lecturer in political science at the University of California at Los Angeles.
The second section topic for the afternoon will be "Contributions of the Marshall Plan Toward World Peace," to be presented in the John C. Fremont school auditorium, with J. H. McGaugh, district superintendent of Seal Beach school district, presiding.
The presentation will be by Dr. Henry Forbes McCreery, assistant professor of history at the California Institute of Technology, Pasadena, and Dr. Raymond G. McKelvey, associate professor of history and political science, Occidental college, Los Angeles.
A general summary of Monday's program will be featured at 3 o'clock in the high school auditorium. Simmons will preside and Dr. Robert J. Kerner will lead the discussion.

The county board of supervisors this week let a contract for long 2500 feet of 60 inch pipe on stream from Prado dam and elevating an additional 50 feet open ditch in an effort to salv some of the 8000 acre feet of water which is believed now wastethrough evaporation and transpiration from the Prado dam.
The pipe to be laid will connect with a sub-dam pipe which was when the dam was under construction and has since been plugged. The Anaheim Union Water company and the Santa Ana Valley Irrigation company own the major part of the dams in the Prado basin already begun excavating trenches lead water from the water-ked lands to the outlet under the dam, and have had cut out considerable area of brush in the basin which is believed to have been responsible for a great loss by transpiration. Spencer Webb, Inglewood, was successful bidder for the contract with a bid of $168,145.

"The Hope of Peace in One World" will be the topic of Dr. Robert J. Kerner, state professor of modern European history at the University of California at Berkeley.
Following the noon recess from 11:45 to 2 o'clock with general luncheon in the cafeteria at noon and organization luncheons throughout the Anaheim vicinity, will be followed by the afternoon session in the high school auditorium. Topic of the first part of the meeting will be "The United Nations Organization as a Plan for Peace," with Dr. Basil H. Peterson, president of the Orange Coast Junior college, presiding. Speak:
