Westminster's Presbyterian Church Celebrates 75th Anniversary
The First Presbyterian church of Westminster celebrated its 75th anniversary Sunday at the regular 10:30 morning worship and at a special program at 3 p.m. Greetings from the Presbytery were brought by Rev. Glenn Moore. A reception followed the program in the church's social hall where a birthday cake was cut and served by the Young Matron's Society.
Westminster was organized as a Presbyterian colony on an 80 acre tract purchased by Mr. and Mrs. J. Y. Anderson of Virginia. Their son, H. B. Anderson, is still a resident of Westminster.
Rev. L. P. Webber was the organizing minister and first pastor of the church which was formed with 17 charter members. It now has 236 members and Rev. Mr. Webber has had 18 successors.
The home of Mr. and Mrs. Anderson on what is now Jackson street, New Westminster, was the first meeting place and the two rooms of their home still stand. Later services were held in a hall over the store of Tom Hall, pioneer merchant. In 1878, six years after the church was organized, it erected its first regular place of worship which served it until the building burned down in 1915. A new building was built to take its place and to it have since been added a social hall and a Sunday school building which will soon be expanded to take care of the growing membership.
CHRISTIAN SCIENCE
"Unreality will be the subject of the Sunday Lesson-Sermon in all branches of The Mother Church. The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, The Golden Text is from Psalms: "The hills melted like wax at the presence of the Lord, at the presence of the Lord of the whole earth. The heavens declare his righteousness, and all the people see his glory."
A Scriptural selection from The Acts reports that a man, lame from birth, "seeing Peter and John about to go into the temple asked an alms." Then Peter said, Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee; In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk. And he took him by the right hand, and lifted him up; and immediately his feet and ankle bones received strength. And he leaping up stood, and walked, and entered with them into the temple, walking, and leaping, and praising God."
In "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" Mary Baker Eddy writes, "Inasmuch as God is good and the fount of all being, He does not produce moral or physical deformity; therefore such deformity is not real, but is illusion, the mirage of error, Divine Science reveals these grand facts."
Motorists Asked To Make Tagging Them Easier
California motorists will be asked to place 1948 registration cards in their automobiles in such a manner that the name and address can be read through the closed front left-hand window, Motor Vehicles Director Edgar E. Lampton said.
A request to that effect is being printed on the reverse side of the new registration cards.
"By this means we hope to eliminate a large share of the inquiries from police departments concerning registration of cars tagged for parking violations," said Lampton.

YEP, A CHIP OFF THE OLD BLOCK
That little Davey Williams, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert G. "Bob" Williams of 131 West Broadway, is destined to become a fisherman who will even top his father in enthusiasm, it is believed from all indications to date. When the youngster was taken to Dr. John A. Larson early this week to have stitches taken in his gashed scalp, he "didn't cry a bit." His father told him that Dr. Larson was a superior catcher of swordfish. All the patient was concerned with then was swordfishing and how it was done. The accident occurred when the boy ran under the turnstile of the market next door to his father's sporting goods store on West Broadway.
