Grand Opening For Lyen Furs On Lincoln Ave.
Doors of Lyen Furs, 4606 East Lincoln avenue, Cypress, swung open for a three-day grand opening Saturday, Sunday and Monday. Owners and managers are Mr. and Mrs. C. Frank Lyen. The building which also houses Bundy's style shop, was designed and constructed entirely by Lyen, who is a retired concert violinist.
The custom furriers specialize in a complete line of furs made to measure including China mink, natural black kid, dyed, natural back and natural belly squirrel, Marmot leopard and Bombay lamb. Their service features restyling, remodeling, relining, storage, cleaning and glazing.
Beginning with a bare acre of land a few months ago, the Lyens are now the proud owners of a fruit and vegetable stand and the modern low building designed with a wide expanse of plate glass combined with heavy dark wood and Arizona flagstone. A roaring lion's head forms the sign above the roof. It is lighted from the back at night.
The industrious couple plan to build a spacious apartment adjoining the rear of their business establishment.
The prize Chinchilla was on display during the grand opening as was a family of Karakul sheep.

Door prize winners from this vicinity included Mrs. B. L. Chandler and Gus Aspelin of Anaheim; Mrs. Elizabeth Fairchild of Buena Park and Leon Ferguson of Garden Grove.
It's Cover Crop Planting Time Says Wahlberg
Past years experience has shown that September planted cover crops in citrus orchards usually give the best tonnage of green organic matter, says Farm Advisor Harold E. Wahlberg.
Where the crop has been harvested, the ground should be prepared for the cover crop seed bed and set up for fall and winter irrigation.
Cover crops are an effective source of organic matter, says the farm advisor. Orchards that continue to cultivate and stir the ground frequently, use up their supply of organic matter rapidly as compared to non-tilled orchards.
The latter have found the addition of organic less necessary. But cultivated orchards, especially on sandy or sandy loam soils usually benefit by the application of manures or the turning under of good cover crops as a source of fertility.
