Phone Company Growth Smashes All Records The Pacific Telephone and Telegraph company has increased its telephones in service in southern California by 269,000 since VJ Day, according to Robert J. Rossberg, manager of the company's Anaheim exchange. This is more than the total increase of the four best years of the company's pre-war growth. There are now 1,290,000 telephones in service in the company's southern California area. During the last two years 1771 telephones were added to the Anaheim exchange to raise the total number of telephones in service here to 5163. Community Chest E. Steffensen, president of Orange County Federation of Community Chests, today announced the appointment of Joseph G. Catanich as executive director for the newly-formed Orange County Federation of Community Chests. Catanich, a resident of Orlando county, was formerly a staff member of the Los Angeles Community Chest, a member of the board of directors of the National School Work Publicity Council, as well as a field supervisor for Los Angeles county for the California War Chest.
