A five-room house built of laminated plastic panels weighs only one ton; a conventional house of this size weighs 40 tons. Everybody reads the Gazette. first seven months of 1947 an average of 93 percent city. Support of egg price quired under the Steagall "not less than 90 percent city" on an annual basis. Production of eggs for 6 months of 1947 is likely slightly heavier than for the period last year. At the time, cold storage holdings eggs on July 1 were for million cases smaller than ago, and commercial hold frozen eggs are about 30 lighter. Should price-support be necessary in the new months, such operations may carried on through the process of quality shell eggs. SOYBEAN OIL TO BE EXCHANGED FOR OLIVIE Soybean oil produced at U.S. will, in effect, be traced olive oil from other countries cording to the Department agriculture's plans for expectations. Olive oil has been in supply in the U.S. for several and at the present time Mediterranean countries but portable surpluses. Because total fats and oils are shown ever they cannot release for export unless than can other edible oils for replaces. Domestic soybean oil into ollive oil producing at a lower cost per pound olive oil would permit these tries to improve their dosage for the purchase American products. DAIRY RESEARCH RECOMMENDATIONS The dairy advisory committee has recommended to Secrutry Agriculture Clinton P. A eight broad lines of research be carried out under the Land Marketing Act of 1946 research would be direct Agricultural conservation is a necessity, not only to the American farmer, but to the American consumer as well, in the opinion Congress, which has just adced the United States Department of Agriculture that the Agricultural Conservation Program for the current year will receive practically the same amount of funds were available in 1946. "We hope all of the farmers in California who contemplated performing agricultural conservation practices under the program will now get up full steam and go ahead," said E. H. Spoor, chairman of the California Production and Marketing Committee of the SDA. "A couple of months ago, then indications were that funds for incentive payments would be severely reduced, some of our farmers became discouraged and gave up hope of performing any material amount of conservation practices. They should feel reassured and doubly encouraged because not only are full funds available for 1947, but funds have also been made available for a 1948 program. On top of this, members of Congress are working develop a continuing national agricultural program," continued Spoor. Roy L. Hale, chairman of the Orange County Committee, suggests that all farmers who have toward increasing the usefulness of the nonfat portion of milk, such as the skim milk left over after the butterfat is removed or the whey left over from cheese making; and, secondly, to starting to gather full information about the markets for milk and dairy products. This calls for the accumulation and analysis of basic statistics and information indicative of the market system as it now operates. Other recommendations concern methods of disposing of water from dairy plants so as to avoid stream pollution; market news, particularly of price reporting and quotations from terminal markets; farm management and marketing problems that necessarily attend the seasonal variations in milk production; flavor, quality and other characteristics that appeal to consumers; methods of price determination used in Federal milk marketing orders; and the effect of government regulations. MEAT EXPORT ALLOCATION ANNOUNCED In view of current meat prices and strong domestic demand, U.S. export allocations of meat during the current quarter-year are being restricted to countries which normally depend on this country for essential supplies. The July-September allocation for commercial export amounts to 16,876,000 pounds of meat and meat products—about one-third of 1 percent of the 4.9 billion expected production during the quarter. This compares with about 155 million pounds allocated for April-June. LARGE U. S. GRAIN EXPORTS EXPECTED THIS YEAR The United States will be able to make a substantial contribution this year to the export-import They should feel reared and doubly encouraged because not only are full funds available for 1947, but funds have also been made available for a 1948 program. On top of this, members of Congress are working to develop a continuing national agricultural program," continued poor. Roy L. Hale, chairman of the Orange County Committee, suggests that all farmers who have any questions in connection with the Agricultural Conservation program call at the county office located at 622 N. Main street, Santa Ana, and discuss the matter. 7 POTATO ACREAGE REND DOWN Potato growers across the country are playing ball with Uncle Tom this year in the drive to keep production in line with prospective consumption. The July 10 USDA report on commercial truck crops shows that the group of states producing the "summer" crop of potatoes planted 116,000 acres this year, compared with 32,000 acres in 1946. The 12-percent reduction, along with a 20-percent reduction in the state spring" states, a 29-percent reduction in the "early spring" potato producing area, and a 28-percent reduction in the "winter" area shows a pattern of cooperation among growers to solve their surplus spud problems. Average yields for all areas reported or estimated so far run somewhat below the 1946 per acre production. PRICE SUPPORT EGG BUCHASES TO BE STOPPED Price-support buying of dried and frozen eggs will be discontinued by the Department of Agriculture after July. Demand for the rest of the year is expected to be sufficient to keep farm prices for eggs at levels which will not require governmental price supports. Producer prices for eggs for the first seven months of 1947 reflect an average of 93 percent of parity. Support of egg prices is required under the Steagall Act at not less than 90 percent of parity" on an annual basis. Production of eggs for the last six months of 1947 is likely to be slightly heavier than for the same period last year. At the same time, cold storage holdings of shell eggs on July 1 were fully 4½ million cases smaller than a year ago, and commercial holdings of CLASSIFIED COLUMNS For A Winning Handful of RESULTS Our Classified Column advertisers often call us back to say—“best investment I ever made: results in 24 hours.” See the wide range of services offered to you—look through our Classifieds today!
