Joint Ceremony For 15 Legion Auxiliaries Tuesday
Newly elected officers of 15 American Legion auxiliaries in Orange county were installed in a colorful program Tuesday night with the Santa Ana group acting as hostesses in the Legion hall of that city.
Presiding over the meeting was Mrs. Cora Baldwin of La Habra, president of the Orange county council. The installation ceremonies were conducted by Eliza Mae Peterson of Riverside, president of the twenty-first district, and the district ritual team captained by Gladys Robertson of Santa Ana.
Attending the event was Mrs. Very Burry of Huntington Beach, newly elected president of the twenty-first district.
Elvamae Jones was seated president of the Anaheim auxiliary. Other local officers installed with her include Mesdames Lucille Johnson, first vice-president; Margaret Peterson, second vice-president; Margaret Dawson, secretary; Helen Rommel, treasurer; Josephine Fulfer, historian; Betty Rees, musician; Margery O'Kane, sergeant-at-arms, and Bertha Bryant, marshal.
Members of the Anaheim execu-tive board are Mesdames Peggy Boysen, Nora Dodge, Elizabeth Fry and Carrie Fackiner. The board members and officers will serve for the fiscal year 1947-48, beginning their duties this month.
Towns represented by the 15 units were Brea, Buena Park, Costa Mesa, Newport Harbor, Laguna Beach, Placentia, Orange, Tustin, Santa Ana, Fullerton, La Habra, Midway City, Huntington Beach, Seal Beach and Anaheim.
Following the meeting, refreshments were served by Mrs. Irene Gittens assisted by Mesdames E. F. Matthews, Myrtle Strong, Roy Roepke and Dale Riggs, all of Santa Ana.
Choir’s Farewell Party Honors Miss Ruth Swanson
Miss Ruth Swanson of North Helena street, former high school teacher and choir director of the First Presbyterian church of Anaheim, was honored with a farewell party given by members of the church's choir last Thursday night at the home of Mr. and Mrs. R. A. Patrick, 212 South Ohio street.
A buffet dinner was served featuring tamale pie topped off by ice-cold watermelon, in the spacious back garden of the Patrick home, preceding choir re-hearsal.
The group presented Miss Swanson with an album of her favorite records which were played during the evening. She will be a mu- instructor in Santa Ana beginn-this fall.
Following the rehearsal, gals were enjoyed. Bouquets of fussias and roses graced the liv-room.
Those attending the affair included Mr. and Mrs. Ray Williams, Mr. and Mrs. Cordon Purple Mr. and Mrs. Aubrey Van Veen Mr. and Mrs. Willis Newsan, and Mrs. John Seapy, Mr. andrs. Lynn Stull, Mr. and Mrs. William Talevich, Everett Marks daughter, Barbara; Miss De Hilton, Mrs. Barbara Zarlin; Mrs. Bernice Nelson, Rev.; and Mrs. Howard Congdon and ch-ren, Stuart and Marion, speci-guests, and Mr. and Mrs. R. Patrick, the host and hostess their two sons, Jimmy Charles.
The Kilduff Family Enjoys Scenic Trip

A. Kirk, the host and hostess and two sons, Jimmy and Jesse.
The Kilduff family enjoys a trip and Mrs. James Kilduff and Terry, 412 North Janss returned to Anaheim last refreshed after a month's visit in Washington and Oregon.
Leaving here June 30, they enjoyed sight seeing along the Columbia and Rogue River, Oregon, attended a portion of the Elks national convention in Portland, and stopped at Lobster Creek, Silt Coos Lake and Crater Lake, Oregon.
Of special interest was a 82-mile trip up the Rogue River via mall boat. They also exclaimed over the majestic beauty of the redwood forests.
According to Kilduff, owner of Kilduff's meat emporium in the Greater Anaheim Market, and Mrs. Kilduff, who owns and manages the Junior Rendezvous, on North Los Angeles street, they missed the fall and spring run of salmon in the Columbia river.
Institute Local Altrusa Club Tuesday Night
Mrs. Hildred Ferrell was installed president of the new Anaheim Altrusa club during an impressive dinner meeting in the Mother Colony House on West Center street Tuesday night. Dr. Helen Preston of Los Angeles, first vice governor of the ninth district, was the presiding officer for the installation ceremony. The organization here is under the sponsorship of the Santa Ana Altrusa club.
Acting as mistress of ceremonies was Cora Prather, member of the Santa Ana group. Other Anaheim officers seated include Thelma Silzle, vice president; Nina Gould, secretary; Clara Montgomery, corresponding secretary; Ada Gandy, treasurer; Carrie Lou Sutherland, Ann Clodt; Frances Dehlsen and Doris Desch;
board members. The new members were initiated by Mabel Wilkinson and Olive Walsh of the Santa Ana club.
The first Altrusa club in Asia was instituted on Tuesday night in Korea, it was revealed in a message from Altrusa international.
A reading was given by Joanne Hockaday of Santa Ana followed by a song with Ruth Armstrong playing the piano accompaniment.
Lighted tapers and beautiful floral arrangements of blue carnations blended with white and blue satin ribbons, carrying out the club colors decked the long table. The corsages were created by Carmen Lizarraga, Anaheim club member.
Special guests introduced during the affair included Sally Bohannon, president of the Pasadena Altrusa club; Adria Lodge, second vice-president of Pasadena, and Edith Northman, president of the Los Angeles club.
B-PW Club Meets At Boyd Home
A pot luck dinner meeting and white elephant sale were enjoyed by members of the Business and Professional Woman's club Wednesday night of last week in the home of Mrs. Eva Boyd, 129 South Olive street, beginning at 6:30 o'clock.
Reports of the southern district conference, attended by five local delegates, were presented during the business session. Next meeting of the group will be August 6.

Music Theme For Lights Tourney
Entries are coming in steadily for this year’s Tournament of Lights slated for 7 o’clock in the evening, August 16, at Newport Harbor, to include additional features of an “Ambassador of Goodwill” boat broadcasting details of the aquatic extravaganza and intensive illumination and decoration of piers and bay-front homes, W. H. Hitchman, general manager, disclosed. “Famous songs” is the theme.
Heralding the parade of gaily lighted boats and floats will be H. F. Kenny, president of the Newport Harbor Chamber of Commerce, broadcasting from the goodwill “greeter” craft which will tour the bay beginning at 6 o’clock that night.
Float and Corinthian entry blanks may be obtained and left at the bay city chamber offices or at the tournament office on the Ferry Landing, Balboa Island. J. S. Barrett will be the tournament commodore.
20-30ians Hail Old Timer’s Night
Colorful saga of pioneer days was recalled as members of the Anaheim 20-30 club gathered for Old Timer’s Night, Tuesday evening in the Elks club. Jack Gledhill, first president and organizer of the local group, received the gavel from current president Al Mitman. All past members were invited.
Approximately 63 members and guests enjoyed the event which included a convincing replica of an old-time “game room” provided for entertainment following the program.

TEXAS STATE PICNIC
More than 25,000 former Texans are expected to attend the twenty-fifth annual picnic in Bixby Park, Long Beach, next Saturday, L. A. Pipkin, president of the state society of Long Beach, master of ceremonies, stated. Registration will be by the 254 counties. Plenty of food may be purchased on the grounds and picnic tables are reserved for those bringing Texas delicacies. The morning program featuring a variety of music will begin at 10 o’clock. Hon. Burton W. Chase, newly elected mayor of the beach city will give the welcome address. Hon. George D. Ezell, newly elected councilman, formerly of Electra, Texas, will respond. Speaker of the day will be Dr. W. L. House, professor at Southwestern Theological Seminary, Ft. Worth, Texas. Hon. Jerrell Babb, president of the Texas State Society of California, Edward S. McKinney, Jimmie Hall, former Japanese prisoner of war; the “Tune Tossers,” and screen and radio artists, Ethel Lundt, Stewart Hamblen and “Susie” will be featured also.
The number of goats has increased in the United States until there are more than 84,000 registered.
Anaheim Team Confers Degree
The Third Degree team of the Anaheim Odd Fellows lodge conferred the degree to a Huntington Beach candidate Tuesday night in the beach city lodge.
Following the presentation, delegates from Santa Ana installed the Huntington Beach officers for the ensuing six months.
Next regular meeting of the local group will be Tuesday night at 8 o'clock in the IOOF hall, 325 West Center street.

Timely Topic For Toastmasters
Blending with balmy summer weather, the table topic "Vacation and Retirement" was introduced by Ed Wright, topic chairman during the Toastmaster's dinner-meeting Monday night in La Palma Grill.
Toastmaster of the evening, Joe Kaska, introduced the speakers. Rev. Leslie Sim took the Patterson trophy honors with his six-minute discussion of "Let's Not Act Like Monkeys." Other speeches included a five minute commentary on "Communism of the Hive and Ant Hill" by Ralph Alexander and a 10-minute presentation of "Alaska, Our Last Frontier," by Alfred Holve.
Herman Hoch was the evaluator. A round table discussion of the use of speech notes followed the prepared talks. A summary was given by Paul Demaree.
Next week Harold Alfson will be in charge of the table topic, Robert J. Allen, toastmaster of the evening and William Davis, the critic.
REEVES ENJOY LOS ANGELES STAGE SHOW
Kenneth Reeves of 502 South West street, attended the "Louisiana Purchase" stage show at the Philharmonic auditorium in Los Angeles Wednesday evening of last week.

ALL BUCKEYES INVITED TO PICNIC SUNDAY
The annual picnic of the Ohio State Society of Long Beach will be staged next Sunday in Bixby Park, Long Beach, Carrie I. Dow, president, announced. A basket dinner is planned for the noon hour. Coffee and refreshments are available on the grounds also. A noted speaker, the Municipal band of the beach city and special entertainment are scheduled for the program. All Buckeyes and their friends are invited to meet "the folks from the old home town."
