Junior Chamber Given Charters During Dinner Presentation of the national charter and the state charter climaxed the charter night dinner of the Anaheim Junior Chamber of Commerce which made its formal bow Tuesday evening in the Ebell club house. Pat Rafferty, member for California of the national board of directors, and Don Smith of Huntington Park, state president, did the honors. The charters were received by Anaheim President Dick Adams. Lynn Snyder, president of the Santa Ana Junior Chamber, sponsoring organization, acted as master of ceremonies, introducing Mayor Charles A. Pearson; Glen Hipes, president of the Anaheim Chamber of Commerce; E. W. Moeller, secretary of the Anaheim Chamber; and presidents of local service clubs, Warren Ashleigh, Lions; Al Mittman, 20-30; LeRoy Ater, Rotary, and Norb Faessel, Kiwanis. State President Smith revealed that four junior chambers were organized in 1927, the first in California, one of them being in his native city, Santa Ana. He is the twentieth state president. At present there are more than 16,000 members in 82 Junior Chambers in the state. After he presented the national charter Rafferty outlined the aims of the organization. They include efforts toward civic, business and recreational improvements within the city, and the expansion of present facilities. Hatfield took a four pound bass on a fly rod and Williams got two limits of bass in two days. During two days of fishing at a point known as Salt Creek south of Laguna Beach Orville Stormer took three good sized corbinas fishing from the shore and several barracuda while trolling from a rubber lifeboat. Mr. and Mrs. John Acquafranca took eight trout on salmon eggs over the Fourth of July weekend at Big Bear lake and reported on their return that many trout were being caught at the lake. Spec Thorson and "Shorty" Smith reported at Bob Williams shop that in two days of fishing near Carlsbad they caught eight corbinas and one eight-pound spot fin croaker. Wiley Rumfeldt reported he caught an eight-pound corbina fishing from the Balboa jetty. During the same evening took a total of eight corbina and one yellowfin. Stanley Mullins and Stanley Woodruff reported that, fishing in Newport Bay, they caught a 24-pound spotfin croaker, several calico bass, and perch and a yellowfin. Charles Linger who tried his luck at Big Bear lake caught a 27 inch trout on a spinner while fishing from shore and the same day caught a three and one-half pound bass. Following the presentation, Anaheim President Adams presided. Sully Roquet was in charge of banquet arrangements, and Paul Havens, ticket sales. Active Session For Toastmasters Opening Toastmaster club activities, Paul H. Demaree, table topic master, introduced the subject "If We Knew We Had Only Two Years to Live" last Monday night at the meeting held at La Palma Grill. President Al Holve presided over the session. Winner of the Patterson trophy was Royal Marten who interpreted a philosophy of life, "Eternal Issues." John Knutzen, second speaker, described "A Trip to Yellowstone Park." Holve acted as toastmaster of the evening. Critics were Sydney Pellew and Demaree. Wilbur Holve, President Holve's son, was introduced during the dinner session. HORSE TAKES HOLIDAY A horse decided to celebrate July 4 by taking an unescorted walk, Woody Cummings, 711 South Walnut street, who tethered the stray, reported to Anaheim police that afternoon. 'Bill' Fennell, Jr. AAF Lieutenant William E. Fennell, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. William E. Fennell, 206 East Wilhelmina street, graduated as a second lieutenant in the Army Air Corps from the San Antonio, Texas, officers candidate school, recently. He was assigned to Boca Raton, Florida, for further training in electronics in connection with weather forecasting. During World War II, Lt. Fennell served with the AAF and was stationed with a weather forecasting unit in Brazil. He was separated from the service in 1946, but decided to make the AAF his career and rejoined. Fair Crowd Sees New Type Orange Juice Extractor California orange juice took on added glamour at the San Diego County Fair this week at Del Mar. AUHS Cadets To Attend Annual Encampment Approximately 43 cadets from Anaheim Union high school's unit of the California Cadet Corps have registered to attend the annual cadet encampment July 9 to 19 at Camp San Luis Obispo, Lt. Colonel Charles A. Royston, acting director of the cadet corps, announced this week. Forty adult commandants will comprise the encampment's instruction administrative staff for the 700 boys from public and private secondary schools throughout the state, Colonel Royston said. The majority of the staff members who will supervise activities are veterans of World War I and II and include former Army, Navy and Marine Corps officers. Camp courses scheduled are first aid, swimming and life saving, map reading, marksmanship with range firing, physical training, and leadership and command. A full program of sports and recreation is planned with regular evening entertainment on the post in cooperation with civic organizations of San Luis Obispo. Submerged Land Claimed Under Girard Script The city of Huntington Beach has filed a claim on 40 acres of submerged lands offshore from the city. The claim is filed by virtue of the fact that the city has obtained possession of a piece of the famous Gerard scrip which is said to entitle the owner to ownership of public lands. Now that the U. S. Supreme Court has ruled that the three-mile strip of submerged lands below low tide belongs to the federal government interest is lent to this piece of paper. Man Suspected Of Car Theft Here Convicted Edward Brooks Willford, believed by Anaheim police to have been in a party which stole a new car from the display room of the McFadden motor sales room on north Los Angeles street early on the morning of April 17, was convicted last weekend in Superior Court in Santa Ana on charges of burglary, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to commit murder. The charges grew out of the burglary of a gun store in Seal Beach, followed by a gun battle with two Seal Beach police officers. Willford subsequently was taken into custody near Lake Tahoe after a companion had been killed in a battle with highway patrolmen. The Seal Beach gun store burglar escaped during their battle with officers in a stolen automobile which was abandoned here. Police believe the men then took the new car from the McFadden display room and drove it to San Bernardino where they abandoned it in favor of two new cars they took from a display room there. Hunting Rules TEND SPECIAL RED MOSS MEETING Plans for sending Christmas gifts to service men on the high seas were formulated by Red Cross representatives from Los Angeles and Orange counties this afternoon in the Long Beach chapter headquarters. Attending from Anaheim were Mrs. N. Wisser, Anaheim chapter clerk, and Mrs. P. M. Wheelock, local executive secretary. The Cross will act as a clearing house for presents being sent by outside organization or individual it was announced. MOLAY TEAM TROUNCES RANGE TEAM 18 TO 7 A fast moving ball game today night the Anaheim Deer nine ran up a score of 18 against the 7 runs made by the Orange DeMolay team on the Irvine park diamond. Sixteen local members attended the short business session and game with Adir Huston Kier. Tentative plans are made for the Santa Anaheim game. Each of the three heirs of the hero were awarded scrip entitling them to a section of public land. Huntington Beach has acquired a certificate for 40 acres issued originally to William Gerard. City Atty, Ray Overacker of Huntington Beach said the certificate held by the city is Special Certificate No. 2, Subdivision 5, and was issued Oct. 18, 1880, and the acting commissioner of the general land office, Department of the Interior, lists John T. Arms of Washington, D. C. as the assignee. Arms then on Oct. 22 of the same year assigned it to Robert M. Forsman. Forsman assigned it without name Nov. 9, 1886, the scrip shows. Huntington Beach acquired it from the Pacific Basin Development Co. THE R. A. PATRICKS ENTERTAIN FRIENDS Mr. and Mrs. R. A. Hunting Rules For 1947 Made By Commission Seasons, hours, limits and hunting areas for hunting big game, and upland game birds in 1947 have been set by the California State Fish and Game Commission. The deer hunting season in the coastal area will again begin August 7 and end September 15. In the Sierra area the season will begin September 16 and extend through October 15. Two deer may be taken in a season in the coastal area and in Del Norte, Humboldt and Trinity counties and those portions of Tehema, Shasta and Siskiyou counties lying west of U.S. Highway 99. Game refuges which were declared open or abolished by the commission include 4C in Orange county, portions of 4A in San Bernardino county which will be open for taking of deer, quail, water fowl and bandtail pigeons in the proper seasons, and a portion of 4E in San Diego county. Prince Albert gave Victoria a golden ring fashioned as a snake composed of fourteen hinged joints, twelve of them set with diamonds. Bill Hunton Joins Staff Of Local Paper G. M. "Bill" Hunton, orange rancher, former truck line operator, horseman and civic worker, is acquiring a new experience this week as business manager of the Orange County News. Hunton lives on his orange ranch at the corner of Placentia avenue and South street. He or-ganized and operated the Valencia Truck company until he sold it two years ago, was for 15 years active in Boy Scout work, is a member of El Rodeo Riding club and a member of the Sheriff's Mounted Reserve.
