Varied Program For Farm Center
Discussion of the farm bureau health plan, an entertaining program, complete with motion pictures commodity and water reports were featured at the regular dinner-meeting of the Anaheim Farm Center last Tuesday evening at the local high school cafeteria.
Paul Crist, assistant county secretary, was emcee for the 20 minute discussion on the Farm bureau's extensive health plan. The many membership benefits were emphasized.
Several clever readings were presented by Mark Geeting or Placentia. Motion pictures were shown through the courtesy of the Schneider Tractor company Mr. and Mrs. Al Christensee were co-chairmen in charge of the program.
President Herman Kraft presided over the business session.
New Business Committee Formed
A secretarial and accounting advisory committee for the business education department of Fullerton Junior college, was organized at the college on Monday January 13.
This committee has been formed to serve in an advisory capacity to the bookkeeping and accounting, secretarial, and general office training program in the FJJ business education department. A similar committee has already been formed for the merchandising and selling departments.
After an explanation of the present training placement, and follow-up program the meeting was given over to a general discussion for long-range planning and development in the business education department. Business

City Engineer Hapgood Retires From Water Board

Mr. Thomas, who expressed his Roy Woods passed away very unexpectedly at his home at 216½ North Philadelphia street, last Sunday, Jan. 1..Born in Ontario, Canada, 57 years ago, he had been a resident of Anaheim for 28 years.
Left to mourn his passing are his widow, Jessie L. Woods, of the home; one daughter, Miss Thelma Woods of the home; one brother, William Woods of Ontario, Canada, and two sisters, Mrs. John Drabson of Ontario, and Mrs. Less Mitchell of Alberta, Canada.
Funeral services were conducted from the chapel of Backs, Campbell and Kaulbars mortuary on Wednesday afternoon at two o'clock by Mrs. Bayliss, a member of the Christian Science church. Burial was in Loma Vista Memorial Park.
Release Figures on Tax Collections
Parking/ meter collections for the month of December amounted to $2,846, according to reports issue dby city clerk Charles Griffith.
In explaining the basis on which the city is taking care of the expense of purchasing and installing the meters, Mr. Griffith stated that the city retains 25% of the monies collected, until the meters are paid for, the other 75% being applied against the purchase. It is expected that the entire cost of the meter installations will thus be written off in about 18 months.
Total taxes on real estate, Mr. Griffith said, show $76,478.19 already collected, with $22,161.68 still to be collected. The second instalment of the taxes is due January 20, and delinquent on April 20.

Co-owners are Mesdames Nettie Alvarez and Lucy Ortega. The establishment also features orders to take out. Open daily, hours are from 8:30 in the morning to 10 o'clock at night with the exception of Saturday, when the doors close at midnight.

Telephone courtesy,more careful checking of facts,greater attention to important details,a ability to locate errors,the use of practical situations in teaching and a better understanding of human relations were some of the other points brought out at the meeting.It was also brought out that there are many opportunities in accounting and secretarial fields with a particular need for those adequately trained in shorthand and other basic skills.

Mr. Thomas, who expressed his unwillingness to serve another term as vice-chairman, is professor of Civil Engineering and Dean of Students at California Institute of Technology.
The new officers of the Metropolitan water district board were elected by the twenty-two directors who represent the fifteen cities and areas which constitute the district. They are Anaheim, Beverly Hills, Burank, Compton, Fullerton, Glendale, Long Beach, Los Angeles, Pasadena, San Marino, Santa Ana, Santa Monica, Torrance, the Coastal Municipal Water District, and the San Diego County Water Authority.
With the exception of Los Angeles, the other cities and areas in the water district obtained 52 per cent of their total water supply during the past year from the Metropolitan aqueduct, which was built and is operated by the water district. This aqueduct takes water from the Colorado river above Parker dam and extends a total distance of 410 miles across the state of California to the various areas it serves.
The direct loss by fire this year will approach $600,000,000. The indirect costs by fire, such as cost of maintaining fire departments, loss of wages and production caused by fire, forest property, depreciation, loss of irreplaceable property, will be two or three times the direct loss.

Mrs. Ortega, a resident of San Gabriel, operated a catering service for several years in the North Los Angeles, Pasadena and San Gabriel areas. A native of New Mexico, Mrs. Alvarez has lived in the family home in Fullerton since childhood.
COL. SMITH PAYS Tribute To Nisei Fighting Units
Col. Raymond E. Smith of Anaheim was one of the guest speakers at the installation-meeting of the Japanese-American Citizens league last Saturday night at Knott's Berry Place. Honored guests were Nisei war dead and Gold Star mothers. Smith paid high tribute to the Nisei 522nd and 442nd fighting units for their highly creditable record. Speaker of the evening was Ralph C. Smedley, founder of Toastmaster's International. Frank Mizusowa was seated as president of the league.

Absentee Drivers Get '47 Plates By Return Mail
The Automobile Club of Southern California has been advised by Thomas Maloney, California Registrar of Motor Vehicles, that any California motorist who is out of the State during the license renewal period (Jan. 2 to Feb. 4), and who applies for re-registration of his automobile by mail, will receive two 1947 plates virtually by return mail. In line with this policy, out-of-state applications will be the only pleasure car requests which will be issued new plates in receipt of applications; all other California car owners being issued temporary receipts in lieu of 1947 license plates, which are expected to be delayed two to six months this year.
Out-of-state applicants are required to furnish their certificate of registration, an out-of-state address, and a post office money order in the amount of fees indicated in the lower left hand corner on the face of the certificate, and their application must be sent to the Department of Motor Vehicles, Sacramento, California.
