MERRY CHRISTMAS!
Now, I suppose you all think I were to add a Christmas text this, I would pick out "peace on earth and good will to men," something like that, for if the ever was a time when we praying and hoping for peace on earth, and for good will among men, to take place of possible atomic bombs, this is that time.
I like that text all right, as I'm old fashioned enough to think that good will, with a little hope and prayer thrown in, are strong influences than some of the other things being talked about, but the text I'd really take for this Christmas would be this one, from Message to Congress, delivered President Grover Cleveland December 17th, 1896, so it wasn't far from a Christmas message, that!
"There is no calamity which great nation can invite while equals that which follows from supine submission to wrong and injustice and the consequent loss of national self respect and honor beneath which are shielded and defended a people's safety and greatness."
I would choose that because I believe that self-respect and integrity, individually or for a nation, can do more to preserve goodwill among men and peace on earth than any laws made by Washington or in any other city. So that is what your Congressman is thinking about this year, who

has been the custom in this town for many years, I rise to remark.
MERRY CHRISTMAS!
I suppose you all think if we add a Christmas text to our would pick out "peace on land and good will to men," or being like that, for if there was a time when we are ing and hoping for peace on land and for good will among us take place of possible bombs, this is that time.
Note that text all right, and fashioned enough to think good will, with a little hope layer thrown in, are stronger pieces than some of the other labeling talked about, but the really take for this Christmas should be this one, from a note to Congress, delivered by Mont Grover Cleveland on October 17th, 1895, so it wasn't a Christmas message, at here is no calamity which a nation can invite which that which follows from a submission to wrong and dee and the consequent loss personal self respect and honor, which are shielded and held a people's safety and security."
Could choose that because I that self-respect and individually or for a nation do more to preserve good strong men and peace on than any laws made inington or in any other city. Is what your Congressman talking about this year, when served as president of Haverford college for several years during the war, and who now writes and publishes (with Frank Hanighen) an extremely interesting little weekly bulletin called "Human Events," has written on the same subject, so I'm going to borrow some of his comments. He calls his bulletin, "A weekly analysis for the American Citizen." I find it valuable.
What started my mind on the subject, as well as Felix', was a protest by a Russian commentator, over the radio, that there is no "wall of ignorance and suspicion" separating Russia from the rest of the world, as Mr. Attlee had just then said. The Moscow government, he said, has a very good understanding of affairs abroad.
That is exactly what Americans should understand. We talk about an "iron curtain." There is no iron curtain. Morley suggests a glass curtain made of that material which an insider can look out, while the outsider can not look in.
Russia has well-staffed embassies, consulates, and thousands of official and unofficial representatives working all over the world. The Russian radios are powerful and carry on constant propaganda. The United States helped materially by furnishing, through lend-lease, 4,171 receiving sets and transmitting sets to the value of $23,140,009. That was to Russia alone. To Russia, Canada, the United Kingdom, India and Egypt, the total was 48,912 receiving sets and transmitting sets to the value Orange Market Price Average Shows Decline
Jobbers and retailers throughout the country appeared to be playing a waiting game on California navels this week with the result that the general price average for the week ending December 21 showed a decline of approximately 50 cents per box fo b. The peak of the Christmas season selling was passed last week and sales were somewhat less than the week before.
A great deal of the fruit, moved during the week ending December 14 was moved late in the week because of a car shortage earlier. As a result, it moved too late to reach eastern and midwest markets for Christmas and was concentrated in western markets where shippers believed it might sell before Christmas. The jobbing trade was over-supplied and prices tumbled as a consequence.
Reports from middle-west and eastern markets indicate that the jobbing trade believes the price spread between California and Florida fruit is too great. In many instances, Florida oranges have sold at prices 50 per cent below California. Florida shipments have been heavy and an estimated 4,000 cars were moved from the southern state the week of December 21. This means a heavy carry-over of Florida oranges after Christmas, indicating a tough battle if prices are to be improved.
Orange prorate for the week of December 28 is set at 540 cars from central California; 150

But to come back to the "glass
curtain." There is nothing new,
nor unique, in this one-way street idea. All dictatorial governments take all the knowledge they can get from the outside world,
and carefully control the information which goes out in return. Hitler did it; Mussolini did it; Stalin does it. It is a necessary step for the preservation of the paternalistic or socialistic state.
An informed people are not so easily influenced by socialistic ideas. As Mörley says, "The Soviet government, being completely socialistic, has merely carried the art of getting without giving to its logical extreme."

Another rise was seen in the lemon market during the week of December 21 with 100 returns averaging approximately 50 cents per box more than the previous week and sales volume comparable. Lemon supplies in the consuming markets continue light but there is some build-up of small sizes and off grades.
In New York, 350 boxes of Italian lemons were sold during the week at an average price of $6.56 delivered. It is estimated that the sales price is just about equal to the delivered cost of the fruit.
