We like to look back over the past twelve months, remembering all the fine things that have been our good fortune. It's pleasant to review the associations we have had with our friends—to find comfort in the knowledge that in lasting friendships come the joys of good living. It's good to say "Merry Christmas"—it's satisfying to hear our friends say Vehicle Bureau Bans Special Plate Numbers No low numbers of any kind will be issued during the coming license renewal period starting January 2, according to a report from the state department of motor vehicles. "License plates will be issued in strict numerical sequence in accordance with the practice of several years' standing," declared Edgar E. Lampton, director of the department. "No application will be held in suspense until the license number desired is reached," he added. The statement given by Lampton followed the department's receipt of numerous requests for special low numbers or for license numbers matching telephone numbers and street addresses. It was also pointed out by the department that plates would not be issued at the beginning of the renewal period but a serially numbered receipt showing the license number of the plates, to be mailed at a later date, would be assigned to each applicant as proof of payment of fees. Fullerton Man Arraigned Here Kenneth C. Zehnfennig of Fullerton was arraigned in justice court here last Friday on a charge of tampering with a lock on the rear door of Kirvin Car company at 1314 North Lemon street. According to reports, the young man, 21 years of age, had crawled under the fence around a car wreclining lot and was caught tampering with the lock on the rear door by Carter Kirven who called officers. Clarke Henning-Trekell Engagement Told At 'Open House' Sparkling diamond, third finger left hand, revealed the engagement of Miss Gloria Henning-Trekell. Members Take Over Ownership Of Credit Assoc. A complete member-ownedship of the Orange County Production Credit association has been voiced by Buttree Students Present Recital. Pupils of the Margaret J. Buttree studio were featured in Christmas recital of piano intuitions and readings last Saturday afternoon. Adding to the excitement was the huge lighted tree and Madonna and Child center, an arrangement of tiny angels gracing the mantle. Following the colorful program delectable refreshments of spiced punch and cookies served to the entertainers and their guests by Miss Buttree. Those appearing in the last a series of Christmas recitals included Carol Fitz, Clada Placier Cheryl Cone, Geri Glover, A Brunskill, Darlene Fitz, Gretchen Glover, Joan Kellogg, Janet Lison, Myrna Lee Llewellyn, Melquita Dixon, Robin Cone, Geoffrey Vieve Bradley and Shirley Benevolent DAUGHTER BORN Mr. and Mrs. Thomas McCauley of Garden Grove, are the parents of a 7 lb. 9½ oz. daughter born in St. Joseph hospital Monroe Dec. 23. Henning-Trekell Engagement Told At 'Open House' Sparkling diamond, third finger left hand, revealed the engagement of Miss Gloria Henning, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Henning. At the annual Christmas open house at the family home dainty tea napkins were inscribed "Gloria and John." Her fiance is Lt. John A. Trekell, of the United States Army: An arrangement of American Beauty roses graced the tea table and carried out the holiday motif. More than 50 guests and relatives learned the news as they enjoyed social tea hours. For receiving her guests at the wreathed door, Mrs. Henning chose a two-piece dress in black with lace inserts at the sleeve. A corsage of pink carnations and iris was her only adornment. Miss Henning was attired in a black party dress trimmed in sequins. She wore a gorgeous orchid corsage. Also present was Lieut. Trekell son of Mrs. Edward Klatts of Denver, Colorado, and grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Trekell of Los Angeles. He will remain in the soutland until January 5 when he will return to his station at Berkeley. He is a graduate of the University of Colorado where he was affiliated with Phi Beta Tau fraternity. During the war, he saw action in the South Pacific and in Japan. The bride-elect, well known in this city, is a descendant of the pioneer Lemke family of Orange county and is the granddaughter of Mrs. O. Henning of Olive road. She attended Placentia schools and the University of California at Berkeley and Whittier college. NDGW of Grace Parlor Enjoy Family Party Members of the Grace Parlor, Native Daughters of the Golden West, gathered for an enjoyable family Christmas party at the I. O. O. F. hall, Fullerton, recently. Festoons of red berries and lighted red candles added to the holiday atmosphere. The Christmas dinner was acclaimed by the 93 persons attending. Members Take Over Ownership Of Credit Assoc. A complete member-ownership of the Orange County Production Credit association has been voted by the directors according to Vernon C. Heil, president, when it was decided to retire all government-owned capital stock effective December 31. This will place ownership of the association entirely in the hands of 140 farmers and stockmen members of Orange county. Already owned by members is $43,750 of the short-term credit cooperatives capital stock. Heil declared that when the credit association was set up in 1934, the original capital of $175,000 was furnished by the government. As farmers and stockmen became members and bought shares of stock, the capital supplied by the government was cut down gradually to $50,1000 which was ordered paid in full Tuesday, December 31. Since their organization, the association has loaned $6,544,000 to finance livestock and general farming operations in Orange county. At the present time some $175,000 is outstanding. The officers and directors of the association are Heil, of Smeltzer, president; Stephen Griset, Santa Ana, vice-president; Frank Borchard of Santa Ana; Selmer Rosedale of Yorba Linda and A. F. Schroeder of Orange. Leland Finley is secretary-treasurer. Anaheim residents can't afford to be without the Gazette at the small cost of only $2.00 per year. Santa Claus for the occasion was Dean Hasson who distributed gifts. Dressed in plain clothes he accounted for the absence of the authentic "old man of the north" by saying that he was lost in the fog. Chief hostesses for the affair were Pauline Johnson, president of Grace Parlor; Mae Lemke, Clara Gauldin, Erna Watts, Evelyn Strocheim and Alice Martin-dale. HERE FROM OKLAHOMA Mr. and Mrs. Frank S. Nipper of Collinsville, Oklaoma, arrived in this city last Friday evening, and are guests in the home of their son, R. F. Nipper and Mrs. Nipper of 213 East Water St. Mr. Nipper will be associated with the Anaheim Gazette. The United States Office of Education estimates a 1946 school enrollment of 28,283,000—or a little more than one in every five persons in the country. For your Christmas and New Year's entertaining, here's a charming and distinctive centerpiece for your table or buffet. A tall, handsome, spiral candle, flanked by high green goblets or bowls brimming with popcorn. Then link the bowls and candle together with ground pine, laurel or other greens. And for your holiday refreshment, you'll want to serve one of the traditional hot punches. Here are two long-time favorite recipes that are easy to prepare and are just right for holiday gatherings. A large earthenware bowl or pitcher (or soup tureen) may be used to prepare your punch. Serve in mugs or cups. HOT MULLED BURGUNDY 2 bottles Roma Burgundy 1 cup sugar 3 cups boiling water 1/2 lemon rind 18 whole cloves 6 inches stick cinnamon Dissolve sugar in boiling water. Add lemon rind, cloves and cinnamon. Boll together for 15 minutes. Strain into double boiler and add Burgundy. Heat piping hot but do not boil. Serve flecked with nutmeg. Serves 15. HOLIDAY EGGNOG 1 cup Roma Port Sugar to taste 2 eggs Separate the eggs and beat the whites and yolks separately. Retain half of beaten egg whites for a "float". Combine remaining egg whites and yolks. Bring milk to boiling point, preferably in a double boiler, and slowly stir in wine, at the same time adding sugar to taste. Continue to stir while adding beaten eggs. Serve in preglazed cups or glasses. Top with a "float" of beaten egg white and a fleck of nutmeg. Serves 0. Adding to the occasion was the huge lighted tree Madonna and Child centering arrangement of tiny angels along the mantle.
