THURSDAY, DECEMBER 12, 1946 WOMEN’S ACTIVITIES Phone 2206 GRACE THOMPSON EMILIE OAS RETURNS FROM EUROPE, WITH R. C. IN WASHINGTON, D. C. After serving as a Red Cross entertainment director overseas in France and Germany for the past year and one-half, spending two weeks with relatives in her native Norway and witnessing one day of the Nuernberg trials of the "big 22," Miss Emilie Oas, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Aksel Oas of 531 South Helena street, is now in Washington, D. C. awaiting discharge from the national organization. She arrived in New York from Italy last Thursday. "We expect her home before Christmas!" said Mrs. Oas happily. Miss Oas was entertainment director of the Columbian club for enlisted men and the officers club in Paris, France, for 11 months. For four months she was in charge of the programs at the famed "Cup and Saucer" club in Gissem, Germany. With the building of a new club for American servicemen at Neustadt, she outlined and directed its entertainment, program which included dances and parties. A memorable reunion celebration was enjoyed by Miss Oas and her relatives in Norway. During her vacation last March she flew from Paris to Germany, Sweden, Denmark, then to Copenhagen and on to Oslo, Norway. She saw her aunt and uncle, Mrs. Edward Boe and L. T. Oas; her grandmother, Mrs. L. Sadahl, and her uncle Nils Sadahl, for ing and makeup for the business woman. Mrs. Wayne Gough, co-owner of La Donna Beauty Salon of South Lemon street, Anaheim, used two models, Miss Lane and Miss Verla Wimberly, sister and co-owner of the salon, in demonstrating her talk using two hair styles adaptable to the busy life of a working woman, each being a style easy for the individual to dress and the attractiveness of the colfure adding to the work a-day life. Gifts piled around a beatutifully decorated Christmas tree, were later distributed, each member bringing a gift for the exchange. Dainty refreshments were served at the conclusion of the evening. Mrs. Brubaker To Head Lois Rebekah Lodge Mrs. Mildred Brubaker was named noble grand of the Lois Rebekah lodge to preside during the coming year during the annual election of officers last Friday evening at the I.O.O.F. hall. Dorothy Heinze, outgoing noble grand, presided. Others selected to serve with Mrs. Brubaker include Gladys Hamilton, vice grand; Berthyle Reisinger, recording secretary; Elsie Borth, financial secretary; Hannah Horwitz, treasurer, and Jennie Nelson, trustee. In an impressive ceremony Misses Nancy Ater, Annett Ater Genevieve Kirk, Margaret Craneston, Dana Thomas and Lois Ashleigh were welcomed into the order by Marlyn Hall, associate guardian, and Mrs. Fay Hall guardian. The girls were attired in pastel toned formals for the occasion. Each was presented with a lovely corsage which blended with her gown. Guardians installed include Mrs. Laura Wright, guarding secretary; Mrs. Ellein Bastain, custodian of paraphernalia; Mrs. Cora Webb, promoter of hospitality; Mrs. May Belle Leverich, promoter of finance; and Mrs. Beervly Lewellyn, director of music all new members. Re-elected were Marlyn Hall, associate guardian Mrs. Fay Hall, guardian, and Mrs Marcella Tessner, guardian treasurer. Installation practice for incoming officers was scheduled for this Sunday afternoon at 1 o'clock Miss Jean Hall, who presided during the business session, asked all the officers to be present for the rehearsal. Delectable refreshments were served and congratulations extended to new members during the closing social hour. Invest Eleven New Girl Scouts In an impressive investiture ceremony by candle light, eleven girls became members of Girl Scout Troop 31 of the Zion Lutheran school recently at the society Credit Women See Demonstration On 'Milady Beautiful' A large number of members of the Orange County Credit Women's club were very enjoyably entertained Tuesday evening at the home of De Loris Flannigan, 183 Rose Drive, Fullerton, for their regular monthly meeting. Assistant hostesses were Mamle Lane, Kathryn Miller and Eleanor Gardner. A quartet comprised of John Bouas, Ann Flynn, Donald Hamilton and Ray Hamilton interpreted several selections. The musicale also featured vocal solos by Joan Spencer accompanied by Eloise Roquet, who also played a piano solo. Program chairman was Clint Nelson. Delectable refreshments were served concluding the meeting, under the chairmanship of Arnold Howard assisted by Curt Horn, Lester Sibley and Dr. E. P. Wurtz. Announcements of coming events included the Past Noble Grand's dinner meeting tonight at Orange Gardens cafe at 6:30 o'clock and gift exchange, and the Lois Thimble club meeting next Monday evening at the home of Helen Pannier. Job's Daughters To Seat Officers Installation of Job's Daughters, Bethel No. 5, officers will be held next Monday at the Masonic Temple at 7:30 o'clock at which time Miss Mary Webb, incoming honored queen, and her officers will be seated for the ensuing year. The ceremony was announced during the last meeting, December 2, which featured the installation of the guardians and six new members. New members include Noralee Loetterly, Carol Schafer, Nance Morales, Marlys Teske, Gayl Newkirk, Patsy Frahm, Shirley Schwarthe, Marilyn Miller, Dorothy Steinbrink, Joan Stovall and Betty Fluegge. Receiving their Brownie Fly-Up wings were Misses Loetterly, Morales, Miller and Steinbrink. Girl Scout games were played with everyone participating and delicious refreshments served. Acting as hostess was Miss Herning assisted by Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Frahm. "Taps" sung by the group concluded the program. Friendship Theme For 54th Girl Scout World Camp Girl Scouts of the United States will be hostesses to an international Girl Guide and Girl Scout en campment from June 26 to July 1 to have as its theme "Friendship Builds a Better World." Representatives from all countries having Girl Guide organizations and one Senior Girl Scout delegate from each state in this country and from each insular possession and territory will attend. Center St. Anaheim 4997 AUHS Drama Class Enjoys 'Macbeth' Sixteen Shakespearean enthusiasts from the Anaheim Union High school drama class attended the twentieth century version of "Macbeth" last Sunday afternoon at the El Patio theater, Hollywood boulevard at La Brea with their instructor, Miss Ruth Phelps. EASTERN STAR INSTALLATION PROGRAM HELD TUESDAY EVENING Presenting the impressive ceremony before a large number of friends and members, the Order of Eastern Star, Chispa Chapter No. 151, held formal installation of officers at the Masonic Temple last Tuesday evening. As each part of the program unfolded before those who had seen the ceremony a number of times, new fields were opened before them, inspiring the members to a new and better year and bringing to the guests, the beauty of the ritual as presented for public installation. Occupying the high honor of worthy matron for the next year, Mrs. Rebecca Hasson was inducted to her office; Edward Marion, worthy patron; associate matron, Camille Deane; associate patron, D. Herbert Deane; secretary, Sallie Maude Adams; treasurer, Inez Daniel; conductress, Vera Riner; associate conductress, Gladys Woodward; chaplain, Blanche Daniels; marshal, Ethel Van Meter; organist, Susie Brown, warder, Pauline Marion, and sentinel, Arthur Heinlein. Those appointed for the emblematic star are: Adah, Eunice Schaeffler; Ruth, Arlene Foster; Esther, Addie Belle Hunt; Martha, Etta Countess; Electa, Pearl Launder; and Star of the East, Pauline Houts. For the opening ceremonies, Charles Organ was master of ceremonies while Myreta Organ and Ethel Bruce were installing marshals. Christmas Play At FJC Tonight Wanda Rinehart of Anaheim is co-starred with Jeanette Leach of Whittier and Norman Stanley of Montebello in "Why the Chimes Ring," Elizabeth Apthrop McFadden's one act play being presented at Fullerton Junior college tonight. Thursday, in the school auditorium. Musical accompaniment is being featured by the junior college A Capella choir and women's chorus under the direction of Earl Narramore. Gail Tower, jaysee student from Norwalk, is singing the solo, "He Shall Feed His Flock." Organist is David Moody, jaysee sophomore of Fullerton. Vocal numbers will include "O Come All Ye Faithful," "Sing We All Noel," with Lois Boucher, La Habra, as soloist; "Lullaby on Christmas Eve," "Birthday of the King" and "Carol of the Bells." The high school girls glee club will interpret the carol "Gloria." Horace Mann Girl Scouts Give Party In true holiday spirit, a delectable Christmas luncheon was given by the Horace Mann Intermediate Girl Scout Troop 9, honoring the members' mothers and teachers, at the school recently under the leadership of Mrs. Richard Glover and Mrs. A. N. Yates, her assistant. The affair was part of the girls' work toward their cook badges. The entrance of the officers-elect was heralded by the appropriate escort of the flag by Dean Hasson. Present grand officers, past grand officers, matrons and patrons of 1946 and past matrons and patrons of Chispa Chapter formed the escort for the new officers. Hostesses for the meeting were Margaret Hasty, Eva Boyd, Nellie Harpster and Yuarda Akerman and usher duties were performed by Earl Baum, Bird Cross, Oscar Brower and John M. Casey. Miss Edith Browner talented singer of this city was soloist during the installation program procedure. Pins were awarded to the incoming Brownie scouts and pendant presented to scouts of a year's standing, by Miss Dorothy Bowe, Girl Scout executive of Anaheim. Following the ceremony, the Brownie smile song was sung by the group. Dainty cup cakes served during the social period were topped with white frosting and brown "B" decoration.
