When the first Christmas Seal Sale was conducted in this country, tuberculosis was the leading cause of death. Today it has dropped to seventh place but still kills at the rate of one person every 10 minutes.

It is one of many being distributed by Boy Scouts throughout the county on behalf of the Orange County Tuberculosis and Health association.

She is survived by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John E. Ackerman of Watertown, South Dakota; one sister, Mrs. Virgil Haase of Watertown, and one brother, Edwin Ackerman of Chicago. She was a member of the Assembly of God church.
The body, prepared by Hilgenfeld mortuary, was shipped to Watertown, South Dakota, where funeral services are being conducted and burial made in the family plot.
TWO SUGAR STAMPS EXTENDED 30 DAYS
An additional 30-day extension of the two home canning stamps for sugar (spares No. 9 and 10) was announced by the OPA. Both stamps, each good for five pounds, were due to expire on November 30, but they will now be valid through December 31, 1946.
ENGINEERS GIVE SURVEY REPORTS ON Sanitation
A commission type of supervision will be recommended for a county-wide sanitation district if it is formed, and the sanitary facilities which would be available would be on a "need" basis only, according to A. W. Rawn, chief engineer of the county's sewerage survey.
Rawn, along with Charles G. Hyde, another member of the board of three engineers operating the survey in this county, described their progress to an assembly of guests at the Anaheim Elks clubhouse last Saturday night, for dinner with the sanitation committee of the Associated Chambers of Commerce.
"All cities and communities could become members of the county-wide district the engineering report will recommend be formed to put into operation the survey's findings," Rawn declared.
"A commission-type of control, with representatives elected from the several districts, would govern it. Only cities and communities needing sanitation services would join, none being forced to membership. Agricultural areas having no need for sanitation disposal would be excluded, but provision for inclusion in case of future development would be provided."
1947 PLATES TO BE DELAYED FOR Two-Six Months
California motorists will ably have to wait from six months before receiving 1947 automobile license plate.
It was revealed today temporary certificates, with numbers designated, will sued to car owners in lieu of license plates, by the Call Motor Vehicle department of the coming renewal period January 2 to February 4, sive.

It was disclosed that supervisors will, with opening of the State Legislature next month, seek legislation by which the county-wide district can be formed."
County Health Council Hears Guest Speakers
Major topics of discussion at the regular monthly meeting of the Health Council of Orange county at Santa Ana last week were the reports of Dr. Mildred Wehrly, Santa Ana physician, and Mrs. Laura R. Warren.
Dr. Wehrly, in reporting on the tumor control board of the county, stated that the board meets at the Orange County hospital on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month and is composed of surgeons, radiologists, pathologists and representatives from nearly all of the specialties. Only cases of definite or suspicious malignant tumors are referred to this board for diagnosis and recommendations regarding treatment. The inspection of apparently well persons for early signs of cancer is a project under consideration of the Assistance League of Orange county.
In the address given by Mrs. Warren, the Visiting Nurse service was explained. The service was inaugurated at the request of the military bases and was a free service to the three lowest brackets of rank, and later became available to civilians. Mrs. Warren presented a resolution adopted by the Southern Orange County chapter of the Red Cross, in board meeting, the afternoon of November 15, requesting that the Health Council sponsor the organization of a permanent visiting nurse organization on a county-wide basis.
The Health Council voted to carry out this request by first obtaining the services of Miss Dorothy Rusby, Pacific coast repre-

available to civilians. Mrs. Warren presented a resolution adopted by the Southern Orange County chapter of the Red Cross, in board meeting, the afternoon of November 15, requesting that the Health Council sponsor the organization of a permanent visiting nurse organization on a county-wide basis.
The Health Council voted to carry out this request by first obtaining the services of Miss Dorothy Rusby, Pacific coast representative of the National Organization for Public Health Nursing. Miss Rusby is meeting with the executive board and other interested organizations and individuals of Orange county on Friday morning, 10 a.m., November 29 in the Red Cross office, 820 North Main street, Santa Ana.
First Installment Of Local Tax Bills Due Today

Discussions may be enlightening or merely a parliamentary-ruled exchange of ignorance.

1947 Plates To Be Delayed For Two-Six Months
California motorists will probably have to wait from two to six months before receiving their 1947 automobile license plates.
It was revealed today that temporary certificates, with 1947 numbers designated, will be issued to car owners in lieu of two sense plates, by the California Vehicle department during the coming renewal period of January 2 to February 4, inclusive.
Under this temporary measure, motorists will be required to keep their certificates in sight in the driver's compartment, and the 1946 plates will remain on all vehicles until replaced by new ones for the following year.
The prewar policy of issuing two plates per car is to be resumed in 1947, and they will be mailed to applicants as soon as they become available. Registration fees are to be paid as usual, at the time of application during the renewal period.
Because tuberculosis has no outward symptoms in its early stage, yet may be contagious in that state, it constitutes a major public
FINALE FOR THANKSGIVING
Delicious turkey soup, hash salad, croquettes or a more than ordinarily bulky sandwich in the lunch box, may mark the end of the traditional Thanksgiving bird this week. According to enthusiastic reports, nearly every local family group gathered for a huge dinner celebration featuring a regal array of delicacies to tantalize the most finicky epicure's palate. Many a banqueter forgot to push back from the groaning holiday table in time not to feel like a "stuffed turkey". Broad grins and "Alka-Seltzer" bottles were much in evidence the following day.
