So. California To Observe Bill Of Rights Week
Bill of Rights Week, commemorating the 155th anniversary of signing of the first ten amendments to the Constitution, will be observed from December 9 to 15, inclusive.
Kent Cooper, executive director of the Associated Press, has been chosen to launch the week's observance in southern California, at a Freedom of Speech and Press luncheon at the Los Angeles Ambassador, Monday noon, December 9, with leading newspaper publishers and executives of the radio industry as guests.
General chairman of the Bill of Rights Commemoration committee, Joe Crail, has chosen John B. Long, general manager of the California Newspaper Publishers association, to be chairman of the day, with Floyd Maxwell, head of the Los Angeles Newspaper Publishers association and Robert Reynolds, president of the Southern California Broadcasters association, as co-chairmen.
On the following day, Tuesday, December 10, freedom of thought and opportunity will be highlighted at an impressive noon ceremony on the Spring street steps of the Los Angeles City hall.
Freedom of assembly and trial by jury and government will be observed on Wednesday, with every courtroom in Los Angeles county directing attention to the Bill of Rights.
Thursday, is set aside in honor of the veteran. Groups from both world wars will be feted at a luncheon sponsored by the Los Angeles Optimist club at the Biltmore. What the original Bill of Rights means to the veteran will be the subject of the meeting.
Bill of Rights Day will be observed on Friday, December 18, with hundreds of organizations calling attention to its many ramifications.
Freedom of worship for all denominations and faiths will be consecrated on Saturday and Sunday.
How Anaheim was Named Told in New Lexicon
Anaheim gained its name in 1858 when it was founded as a German colony by the Los Angeles Vineyard company. The name is coloned from the Spanish "Ana," for the Santa Ana river, and the German word "hemi" meaning home. The name has been accepted literally as meaning "home by the Santa Ana river."
The above declaration appears in "The Dictionary of California Land Names," as published by yard company. The shareholders met on January 13, 1858, at Leutgen's Hotel in San Francisco, to choose a name for the colony. Anaberg was first proposed, to describe the setting beside the Santa Ana river and the distant mountains, but Anaheim suggested by one Schmidt, prevailed. It is bi-lingual, being Sp.—Ana, for St. Anne, specifically the Santa Ana river, and Ger.—helm, or home; ergo "Home by the Santa Ana river."
Every unknown case of tuberculosis presents a double threat—losing his own health and to relatives and associates who may catch the disease from him.
New Patrolman Added to Police For A new patrolman the Anaheim police day, temporarily taking Robert Spencer master.
Herbert Denver resident of Anaheim ten years, is the man will take up regular patrolman on the Spencer returns.

The above declaration appears in "The Dictionary of California Land Names," as published by the Automobile Club of Southern California in an effort to make names appearing on the state's road maps more interesting and understandable to motorists.
Twenty-five years of intermittent research by Phil Townsend Hanna, editor of the club's official publication "Westways," produced the dictionary. It contains information on the origin and meaning of nearly three-fourths of the important names appearing on commonly consulted maps of California. In addition, it includes data on approximately one thousand places that once appeared on state maps but that now have disappeared.
The complete entry for Anaheim follows:
"Anaheim was founded by a group of San Francisco Germans, the result of the back-to-the-soil movement of many a similar aggregation of disillusioned gold-seekers. The group purchased 1165 acres of land about Anaheim from Pacifico Ontiveras, to be laid out in small farms under the corporate title, the Los Angeles Vine-

New Patrolman Added to City's Police Force
A new patrolman was added to the Anaheim police rolls yesterday, temporarily taking the place of Robert Spencer, city poundmaster.
Herbert Denver Henderson, resident of Anaheim for nearly ten years, is the new man. He will take up regular duties as a patrolman on the force when Spencer returns.
Born at Cointh, Kentucky, Henderson came to Anaheim in 1937. He became associated with the Pacific Lighting company and later joined the navy for a four year term. Following his honorable discharge, he entered the Maritime Service for two years. Last April he journeyed to Kentucky for a visit with his parents and then returned to Anaheim for a position on the police department.
Final Plans Set For Rose Parade
Nearly sixty floats, twenty marching bands and approximately two hundred equestrians will form the 58th Annual Tournament of Roses parade on New Year's Day, 1947, according to an announcement made this week by President William P. Welsh.
Harry W. Hurry, parade chairman, stated that the annual participants' dinner was held last Monday evening at the Pasadena Athletic club, at which time all participants entering floats in the parade gathered to discuss plans for their part in the parade.
Of the entries received so far, 28 represent cities, states or counties; nine represent commercial or business organizations; and 15 either patriotic or civic organisations.
