Picking of the new crop of vertebrates avocados is underway and most areas fruit sizes are better than last season.
The walnut and almond harvest is completed. Due to heat during the growing season the walnut crop was reduced by 59,000 tons, compared to 60,000 tons last year, and a 10-year average of 55,420 tons. However an almond crop of 35,100 was considerably larger than usual.
Tomatoes are still moving in a few protected areas in southern California.
Native Sons Electrify Henry Plou New Leader for Year
New president of Mother Eony Parlor No. 281, Native son of the Golden West for the coming year is Henry Plou of Anaheim, who was elected at a meeting last Tuesday evening in Anaheim Knights of Columbia Hall. Retiring president is Frank Salveson of Fulerton.

Attention is called to the fact that Christmas and other greeting cards bearing particles of glass, metal, mica, tinsel, and other similar substances for decorative purposes which are likely to rub off and injure postal employees and canceling machine must be enclosed in tightly sealed envelopes with postage prepaid at the first-class rate in order that such cards may be accepted for mailing.
Unmailable matter at Christmas (and at all other times) was listed by the postmaster as follows: intoxicating beverages; inflammable matter such as matches, light-or fluid, etc.; ammunition and all other explosives; firearms such as revolvers which can be concealed on the person; obscene matter; poisons; narcotics extortion letters; lottery and fraudulent matter including chain letters.

Sales. Strong competition from Texas and Florida fruit continues in the northwest and mountain states with the southern producing areas willing to sell grapefruit at bargain prices. Harvesting of desert grapefruit started in October about two weeks earlier than usual, but peak shipments are not expected until January.
Lawrence A. Casey Dies From Injuries
Lawrence A. Casey of 217 New Resh street, Anaheim, died in lerton General hospital on Saturday Nov. 30, from injuries received in an accident near River on Nov. 29.
Born August 7, 1913, in El Paso Texas, he had been a resident Anaheim for the past four years. He was a member of Anaheim Elks lodge No. 1345.

California Highway Patrol, Mr. Casey's car was involved in a crash with one driven by Robert C. Waddell of Buena Park.
Surviving are his wife, Betty Casey of the home; two sons, Roy A. and Larry William, also of the home, and his mother, Mrs. W. T. Brothers of Amarillo, Texas.
Funeral services were held in the chapel of Backs, Campbell and Kaulbars mortuary on Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock with the Rev. Thomas L. Burden, former pastor of White Temple Methodist church, officiating. Entombment was in Melrose Abbey Mausoleum.
