John Kringen, tenor from Santa Ana, accompanied by Dorothy ...our nation's FIRST obligation is to its disabled veterans! It's only human to forget. When our enemies were near our very shores we could hardly wait for the next communique from military headquarters. Today the anxieties of those days have faded. The men who manned the weapons which whipped our enemies were blessed for their valor by a grateful nation. Many of those men have returned from those battles disabled, now needing assistance. Today it is only right that we show our heroes the gratitude we had for them when the battles were being fought and won and they were being disabled for our protection. Our feeling of obligation to them must be as enduring as history itself. In these specific ways, recommended by the Disabled American Veterans, spokesman for 4 million disabled veterans, our nation can prove its gratitude The DAV asks your support of the following program: 1. Provide through the Congress adequate compensation and pension to meet everyday living costs for the disabled veteran and his family. 2. Build additional veterans hospitals so that war disabled veterans can be given the best possible treatment and medical care. 3. Make possible selective placement of disabled veterans in jobs they can perform. 4. Extend vocational training and educational opportunities to as many disabled veterans as possible. 5. Treat the disabled war veteran as an individual who wants to be a useful citizen in his community. He does not want charity—but he is entitled to assistance.
