Frank P. Doherty, chairman of the Committee for Tolerance charged that "Proposition 11 denies a trial by jury; it denies appeal to the courts on the matter; it denies the courts power to restrain the commission set up No. 11; it denies the legislature power to amend or repeal the law; it compels citizens to test against themselves; it says that you, your wife, your daughter, your sister must work with anyone the commission directs to gardless of color or race; it would put a snooper in your union and another policeman in your business." Farmers declared agriculture would be severely threatened by legislation forcing minority groups to work side by side. Lead Los Angeles churchmen denounced the measure as "undemocratic un-Christian and un-American." Twenty-eight Chambers of Commerce have gone on record fighting Proposition 11. The Kiddies Show included Corrtello's Hollywood Canines; Barney Griggs, a clown; Max Terhune, a ventriloquist and western character man; the Titans, a group of acrobats and hand balancing specialists; and Johnny Romero, a comedy juggler. Boxo the Clown was master of ceremonies and Monroe Jockers accompanied the performers on the plano. The grand parade, starting at 7:00 p.m., streamed down Center street, headed by movie star Allan Lane as grand marshall and the USC Trojan band, Lane who stars in Republic westerns, rode his black Morgan stallion named "Thunder". He has appeared in more than 50 pictures, including "Call of the South Seas" and "Gay Blades". Other bands following included Anaheim Union High school, Orange Union High school, Elks club, Huntington Beach, Valencia High school, Garden Grove Union High school and Fullerton Union High school. Nearly one hundred floats were entered in the parade, featuring a Hallowe'en theme. Many stunts, decorated cars and groups were included in the parade. Chairman of the parade committee is Leavitt Ford and the nine divisions of the parade itself was in charge of Del Wilkinson. An estimated crowd of 50,000 or more lined the streets and the local police force of 15 was supplemented by an added 65 or more, borrowed from neighboring towns and cities such as Placentia, Laguna Beach, La Habra, Fullerton, the sheriff's office at Santa Ana and Orange. California Cities And Counties to Share Liquor Feeds According to an announcement made here this week by William G. Bonelll, member of the State Board of Equalization from Fourth Equalization, California cities and counties are about half of the alcoholic beverage cease fees for the first six months of 1946. Of this sum, shared on basis of the location of license premises, $34,349.19 will be distributed in Orange county; total of $2,505.74 will go to Ahelm and $7,876.88 will go to unincorporated area in the county. Current allocations will be the cities' and counties' share state license fees to $85,830.04 since the repeal of prohibition 1939. This revenue has been collected and distributed by the State Board of Equalization at no time to local governments. State Support Of High School Districts Declines Direct state support of the high school districts of Orange county for the present school year totals $647,380, an average of $94.91 for each of the 6,821 pupils in the average daily attendance base for state apportionment in the county this year. For fiscal year 1943, when the statewide attendance base and total state support of high school districts were at their peaks, the local police force of 15 was supplemented by an added 65 or more, borrowed from neighboring towns and cities such as Placentia, Laguna Beach, La Habra, Fullerton, the sheriff's office at Santa Ana and Orange.
