Colonists to Play Huntington Beach The Colonists'Varsity "A" team will battle the Huntington Beach eleven tomorrow, Friday night at 7:30 o'clock on the La Palma park field, in what is destined to be a hard-fought and fast moving game, according to AUIIS Coach Richard Clover. Added to the Colonists' backfield strength will be Tommy O'Brien, who was on the bench during the fracas last Friday with St. Anthony, due to an elbow injury, and Gabe Patin who will return a few hours before kickoff time from a Future Farmers convention in Kansas, Ray Hurtado, one of the key men, is out for the season with a broken collar bone. In a hard tilt, the Colonists vied with the St. Anthony team of Long Beach, to a 7-7 tie last Friday, leaving the home team still undefeated this season with a 2-0 victory over Corona and a 21-0 score over Colton to their credit. JUNIOR RED CROSS TO BEGIN MEMBERSHIP DRIVE Junior Red Cross membership drive will begin here and throughout the nation on November 1. Mrs. A. H. Shipkey is the new chairman for this year. T. Boyce of Fullerton Junior college. This article, entitled, "Counseling the Junior College Veterans" appears in the "California Journal of Secondary Education". Boyce lists three main types of advantages which the veteran attending junior college obtains. First, for the veteran who has not received a high school diploma, "the time needed for completion of high school requirements is cut in half. The maturity of the student enables him to move along faster in his studies than is possible for the ordinary high school student". Second, "The junior college offers occupational training such as is not offered by four-year colleges and universities—occupations involving personal service and technical skill, particularly in the field of business and the industries." And third, "the junior college has a definite financial advantage. The two first years of almost any and all professions and majors can be completed just as thoroughly as in the university and at a great saving". Boyce was the only junior college delegate at the conference in Madison, Wisconsin, in February, 1943, which met on request of the war department to study the work of the United States Armed Forces Institute and to make recommendations concerning accreditation. It was this conference that initiated the cooperative study under the American Council of Education which has given the guide a the evaluation of education experience in the armed service. New FJC Vets' Representative The latest addition to the Fullerton Junior College veterans' advisory staff is Henry L. Meekins, contact representative of the Veterans' Administration from the Santa Ana contact office. He will be available for counseling in the veterans' office at the junior college Wednesday and Friday of each week from 8:00 to 4:00. Meekins, a veteran of both World Wars I and II, will serve as advisor to veterans on matters pertaining to insurance, education and vocational benefits, loans or any phase of veterans' activities that the individual veteran may wish to have explained. Ex-GI's seeking information in regard to the Vocational Rehabilitation Bill, claims on either service or non-service incurred disabilities, rights to hospitalization, collecting evidence to reopen a previously denied claim. Alien Japs Ask 'No' Vote on Proposition 15 Eldred L. Meyer, Past Grand President, Native Sons of the Golden West, and a member of the Grand Parlor Legislative Committee, speaking before the Past Presidents' Assembly at San Bernardino, in making a plea for a "yes" vote on proposition number 15, brought out that the alien Japanese are whining the familiar old tune that they are being discriminated against by the provisions of the Alien Land Law. "Nothing could be farther from the truth. This is their method of confusing the minds of the voters. "The law does not discriminate against the Japanese. It is made applicable to all allens ineligible for citizenship—members of some 15 Aslatic nations in all. This California law was adopted under the exclusive right granted by the Federal Constitution to the individual states to control the ownership and use of lands within their respective territories. "The present law was adopted in 1920, under the essentially democratic method of initiative, by a majority of 3 to 1. The electorate is only being asked to ratify two amendments to the law, for the purpose of strengthening and more efficiently carrying out the peoples' purpose as found in this initiative measure. These enforcement provisions were made necessary by the constant efforts of the wily Japanese to evade and violate the provisions of the law. Ex-GI's seeking information in regard to the Vocational Rehabilitation Bill, claims on either service or non-service incurred disabilities, rights to hospitalization, collecting evidence to reopen a previously denied claim, the location of surplus property sales, or any personal difficulty, will confer with Meekins. Meekins will also be of service not only to the veterans enrolled in school, but to those of Fullerton and the surrounding communities as well. He has stated that it will be of special interest to him to assist the latter, especially totally disabled, blind, or amputee veterans, in helping them to overcome their current problems.
