CHRISTIAN SCIENCE The Golden Text of the Sunday Lesson-Nermon on "Unreality" in all branches of the Mother Church, The First Church of Christ, Nelentist, in Boston will be from I John! All that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but of the world." In a parable from Luke Jesus says, "Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a publican. The Pharisee stood prayed thus with himself, God, thank these, that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican." I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess. And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, put smudge upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner. I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other." Mary Baker Eddy writes in "Reliefs and Health with Key to the Scriptures": "We never need to despair of anomalous face to face with their wickedness and then seek to hide it." A dishonest position is far from christianly scientific." CENTER D. A. R. to Launch Citizen Contest Fifty lucky high school senior girls, representing the 48 states, the Territory of Hawaii and the District of Columbia, will be chosen as the winners of the Good Citizenship Pilgrimage contest to be launched by the Daughters of the American Revolution. The award includes not only the signal honor, but a trip to Washington, D.C. during the Continental Congress next May, as a guest of the National Society and several days of sight seeing in the capital city. The California Society, Daughters of the American Revolution, of which Mrs. Charles A. Christian of San Fernando is state reagent, with the co-operation of school authorities, will ask that all high schools name a "good citizen" of their class considered outstanding in qualities of dependability, service, leadership and patriotism. From the three girls selected, the faculty will choose one to become that school's good citizen. The contestant's candidacy is contingent upon her possession of such traits as ready cooperation, courtesy and consideration of others, leadership and unselfish interest in family, school, community and country. When the faculty of the school entering the contest selects the winning candidates, she is awarded a pin and a certificate. She then competes for district honors. The state will be divided into seven or eight districts. Qualifications are based upon tests in civics and American history, as the D.A.R. wishes to deepen understanding in the American way of government.
