ning included Ed Wright discussing "Relaxation," and Harold Alfson presenting "Was There a Flood?" a speech based on the Biblical reference.
John Dwyer, table topic chairman, gave the lively topic "The OPA in its Present Form." Lawrence Plummer was toastmaster for the evening. Diction critic was Bob Allen and Robert H. Allen was evaluator.
"Ladies night" headed announcements during the meeting. A barbecue, tentatively scheduled for August 26, will be taken in the spacious patio of the Earl E. Smith residence, 621 North Clementine street.
Colored movies of the convention taken by Pellew are scheduled to be presented.

Airborne Divisions Want Enlistmens
Are there any aspiring young men in the crowd who wish to make a living as a parachute jumper? Is the weather too warm for you on the ground? Would you like rank and prestige in the service... without too much KP?
Lt. Edward F. Tully, recruiting officer in Fullerton, announced openings for enlistments in two crack airborn divisions; the Eleventh, which was first to land in Japan, and the Eighty-second, whose defiant reply of "nuts to you" followed a German surrender demand at Bastogne.
The Eleventh is occupying Japan for the present, so anyone who wishes to join it will earn an additional 20 per cent of their base pay for overseas service. The Eighty-second is occupied by the Pacific coast.
Colorful "Bums" Of Flatbush Fame May Train Here
Anaheim's own, Brooklyn Dodger Harold "Skeet" Gregg, pitcher, may be just the man to bring the "Flatbush Floogles" to La Palma park.
This was revealed last week when a telegrammed "feeler" was sent to Manager Branch Rickey, saying that La Palma park is back in circulation, waiting bids as a spring training camp.
Former UCLAN Jackie Robinson, the negro second baseman who Rickey placed on the Dodger payroll, contributed greatly in the decision to move west. A little thing called "racial prejudice" limited Robinson's ball playing to one southern field, and that was at Daytona Beach, Florida.
It is noted with great satisfaction that Jackie Robinson may play morning, noon and night on California's soil, with Anaheim's park the most probable Dodger camping ground.
Housing difficulties in the city forced the St. Louis Browns to abandon La Palma park for their training area this spring. They moved to Miami, Florida, instead.

New Fire Chief For Buena Park
The operator of a Buena Park electric welding shop became the community's new fire chief; it was announced last week.
Thomas C. Nelson, 503 Darlington street, Buena Park, took over the reins following the resignation of Charles M. Hallman, who had handled the lead position for the past two years.
It was also reported that since the regular meeting of the volunteer fire department falls on Sept. 2, which is Labor Day, the meeting will be held on Sept. 3, instead.
OPA Warns Home Buyers To Check Eviction Rulings
Ex-servicemen were warned by the OPA in a release today, to be wary when buying a house without the lot it occupies, and expecting to move the house to a new lot.
If there are tenants in the house, their eviction would be a matter for the OPA and the lot's owner to discuss, excluding you in the problem. Such evictions are not granted by the OPA very often!
Here are the reasons, as set forth by the OPA:
(1) The owner of the lot itself is considered to be the landlord by the OPA. This means that the tenant occupying the house bought by the GI can be evicted by petition to the OPA only by the owner of the lot.
(2) It is reported that such landlords often have previously been denied evictions of tenants.
Given Naval Fame By Larsen of the Shortest ment association of formia's program formation and the establishment of small boat harbor entire coastline as developed during the to American Shore association which post war meeting Ohio, last week.
Every seaboard station was represented engaging with top-ranked thorities in attendance of federal governing interest in shorement and erosion son's talks were salting feature of the citation's gathering.
Springing from meetings between Planners and the Cataloging association, this phase of the programed nationwide record modore George R presided over a reregistration, and communities present for small boat harbor Portuguese Bend, Santa Barbara, Ventura.
Also present were engineers who experienced steps necessary federal aid in buildup bors. All these deferred rapidly by planners to bring them to realization. Hurry boats are being built to the Pacific coast 500 already berthed.
ELEVENTH is occupying Japan for the present, so anyone who wishes to join it will earn an additional 20 per cent of their base pay for overseas service. The Eighty-second is undergoing refresher training here in the states.
An extra $50 a month is given qualified paratroopers and glider troops get 50 per cent extra base pay. Colonel Joseph D. Rancy, army recruiting head, pointed out however, that men must enlist for a three year term in order to be accepted in either of these outfits.

ACCLAIM Surf Fishing Trip
Surf fishing was actively enjoyed by approximately 40 anglers, members of the local Izaak Walton League, and their wives, last Monday night at Newport Beach. Sergeant Niles Fiscus and Sam Whipple won top "catch" honors with respectable specimens of spot fin and corbina.
According to usually reliable reports, Monte Webb got two bites, Jim Rymer "hooked" a bird's nest and John O'Kane had fisherman's luck, took a "dip in the drink" and consequently, remained weighted down with sand, sea weed and salt water in his trousers. It seems also that Nick Wingert was the champion "bug catcher" and that Champion Castor Dop Pannier demonstrated his skill by sailing his lead sinker in the general direction of Catalina Island.
As a gala finale, the group enjoyed a watermelon "feed" in which six large melons practically

A. E. Wilbur Wins Angler Jack Pot
Fourteen Izaak Walton anglers participated in the regular deluxe sport cruiser fishing expedition from Lido Island, Newport Beach last Tuesday. Top catch for the all day session was a 26-pound albacore, landed by "Jack Pot Winner," A. E. Wilbur. Dick Martin vied for second prize with a 23-pound albacore.
Ross Kopfer, local barber, hooked into a blue-fin Tuna that "must have tipped the scales at about 50 pounds." It retaliated by sailing away with his heavy tackle.
More than 20 "hefty" specimens were lost by the other Anaheim fishermen due to tackle that was not heavy enough.
"Ladies' night" was announced for August 27.
Ledbetter's Big Gun Now Missing
A huge double barrel shotgun, was noticed missing from its usual spot beside a rifle in the display window of Marvin Ledbetter's jewelry store during siesta time yesterday afternoon.
Two unofficial possibilities for the disappearance have been offered, the first being removal by a person or persons unknown; second, now a current speculation, is that perhaps Ledbetter lost "the darn thing" on a recent boat trip when trying to beat his wife's angling record by blasting fish with it. Seems Mrs. Ledbetter beats her six-foot-tall husband regularly at angling, especially surf, except for the last deep sea fishing trip, afore mentioned.
Given National Fame By Larsen
Executive Secretary George P. Larsen of the Shoreline Development association described California's program for the acquisition and development of beaches and the establishment of a chain of small boat harbors along its entire coastline as it has been developed during the past ten years, to the American Shore and Beach association which held its first post war meeting in Sandusky, Ohio, last week.
Every seaboard state in the nation was represented at this meeting, with top-ranking federal authorities in attendance, evidencing the federal government's increasing interest in shoreline development and erosion control. Larson's talks were said to be a leading feature of the national association's gathering.
Springing from many years of meetings between the Shoreline Planners and the California Yacht-ting association, the small harbor phase of the program has received nationwide recognition. Commodore George Fisher recently presided over a meeting of the association, and various coastal communities presented their plans for small boat harbors at Avila, Portuguese Bend, Playa del Rey, Santa Barbara, Coronado and Ventura.
Also present were U. S. Army engineers who explained the various steps necessary to obtain federal aid in building such harbors. All these details are being followed rapidly by the shoreline planners to bring the program into realization. Hundreds of small boats are being built and shipped to the Pacific coast, with some 500 already berthed in existing or to Regional Director, Bureau of Reclamation, Sacramento:
All applications returned to Klamath Falls by 2 o'clock in the afternoon, September 18, will be considered as having been filed simultaneously. In view of the large number of applicants expected, this has been set as the final date.
The lands comprise 7,527 acres of highly productive and valuable irrigated land divided into 86 units which vary in size from 60.8 acres to 141.3 acres, the most valuable in the smaller units. Average size of the units is 87.5 acres.
New York and Pennsylvania produce over two-thirds of the buckwheat grown in the United States.
The Bureau of the Budget of the United States was created by an act of Congress in the year 1921.
The squirrel is found in all parts of the world except Australia.

Larson made it clear that many of the owners are from counties far removed from the ocean, thus making the small harbor problem one for the entire state.
More Inmates In County Jail
Population in Orange county's jail increased considerably over the weekend with a large number of inebriates booked, and an unusually high number of immigration violators held.
Average number of inmates in the county jail last week was 180, however a total of 221 were left by Monday morning after a number had been released on ball.
Twelve Mexican Nationals were booked by federal authorities last Friday and 12 more on Saturday. The same number appeared Monday.

Traveling with children?
Next time, try the train
children?
Next time, try the train
The train offers a great many advantages to parents traveling with children:
1 Safety. Statistics prove that you and your children are safer on the train than in your own home. That's pretty hard to beat.
2 Low cost. Children under 5 ride FREE when accompanied by an adult, children from 5 to and including 11, half fare.
3 Pullman berths cost the same whether used by one or two people. Thus a mother with a child can "double up" with the child in a berth for no additional Pullman fare.
4 Children get seats in chair cars and coaches just like adults, even though they ride free or for half fare;
5 Southern Pacific dining cars offer a wide variety of food for children as well as adults. A special children's menu offers meals at less than adult cost. Ingredients and facilities are provided for the preparation of formulas and special diets.
6 On the train, children have plenty of room to move around. They aren't "cooped up" as in so many other forms of transportation. And they will get a friendly reception from our trainmen, most of whom have children of their own.
7 Traveling on the train is highly educational for children. They see their country intimately, at ground level.
8 Children love to ride on a train: Remember when you were a child—what fun it was to take a train trip?
