Subsidy On Beef, Sheep Ends Sunday Sheep, lamb and beef cattle production payments will cease midnight, June 30, it was announced here this week by Stephen Griset, chairman of the Orange County Agriculture committee. In making announcement of the closing of the subsidies, Griset warned sheepmen and cattlemen of three conditions that must be met in order for animals to be eligible for the subsidy payments. The three conditions applying to both sheep and cattle, are as follows: 1. In the case of a feeder who sells directly to a slaughterer for slaughter, a beef animal otherwise eligible will not be eligible for payment unless sold before midnight, June 30, 1946, to the slaughterer for slaughter. 2. In the case of a feeder who sells to a person other than a slaughterer, a beef animal otherwise eligible will not be eligible for payment unless the animal is delivered before midnight, June 30, 1946, to a slaughterer for slaughter. 3. In a case of feeder-slaughterer applying for payment under the program, a beef animal otherwise eligible will not be eligible for payment unless slaughtered before midnight, June 30, 1946. Griset explained that "delivered to a slaughterer" means that the sheep or lambs were weighed to, and complete ownership is vested in, the slaughterer before midnight on June 30, 1946. Griset stated that as usual, cattlemen will have two months after the closing date in which to file their application for payments, until August 31, 1946, but he urged all applications be submitted as soon as possible after June 30th, in order that the program may be completed and closed without delay. The applications are to be submitted to the AAA office, 622 N. Main St., Santa Ana. Additional evidence as required by the regulations may be secured and submitted after the filing of the applications, Griset said. A number of cattlemen have inquired concerning the effect of the removal of the subsidy upon the price and supply of meat, Griset said, and explained that no information on these subjects has been received by the county office at this time.
