Jurist Retires End of Year
Continued from Page 1 of the year.
Rich in knowledge and filled with tales of the early doings of the community, Judge Kuchel has witnessed the growth of Anaheim from a lusty frontier town bordered by Indian reservations and populated by Mexican vaqueros, to the modern community it is today.
During his reign on the bench of the Anaheim township justice court for the last 23 years, Judge Kuchel, one-time "printer's devil" has presided over trial of 12,733 cases in his court.

Behmyer Concert Features Mozart Chorus, Ensemble
New honors came to the Mozart Girls' choir and the string ensemble of Anaheim Union high school today, as the talented vocalists and instrumentalists have the distinction of being featured on the Behymer Matinee program at Barker Brothers' auditorium in Los Angeles under the direction of Miss Ruth Swanson and William Cook, school instructors.
Because of their outstanding record, the versatile choir received the special invitation from Barker Brothers to appear on the program without the usual required audition.
The well balanced program to be presented before a large audience, will commence with a violin obligato duet, "Somewhere a Child is Singing," by Dykema, interpreted by Virginia Casey and Shirley Essary. "Alice Blue Gown by Tierney will be presented by Loretta Franzen, soprano soloist.
In sharp contrast, the mixed chorus will sing Debussy's haunting "Clair de Lune," "Ol' Man River" by Jerome Kern and "Cherubim Song" by Bortniansky.
Strauss' "Spring is in My Heart" will be described by Loretta Franzen.
Instrumental numbers by the string ensemble under the baton of Cook, will include "Adagio" by Victor Landon and David Rose's modern selection, "Pizzicato Etude."
Virginia Casey, talented solo violinist, will present "Czardas."

During his reign on the bench of the Anaheim township justice court for the last 23 years, Judge Kuchel, one-time "printer's devil" has presided over trial of 12,733 cases in his court.
The figures, complied by his able assistant and secretary, Miss Doris M. Desch, reveal 5,043 criminal cases and approximately 10,000 traffic cases have been tried in his courtroom during the last two decades.
Civil cases tried in the township court totaled 4,976 while small claim trials amounted to 2,714.
Each day the aged jurist appears in court, shuffles through the docket for the cases due for presentment and quietly and efficiently presides over them until they are concluded.
The Orange county council of the American Red Cross is meeting tonight at the Orange chapter headquarters in the city hall there. Mrs. D. Jerry Youngs, Mrs. P. H. Nelson and Mrs. P. M. Wheeler, executive-secretary from the Anaheim chapter will attend.

By Katella Pupils
"Robin Hood and His Merry Men" was presented by 5th and 6th graders at Katella elementary school under the direction of Mrs. Ruth Bumgardner last Friday afternoon on the lawn front-
ing the school.
Costumes for the play, which culminates a unit of study on medieval life, were designed by the students.
Unique stage setting included a castle constructed on authentic lines of rock and cement populated with tiny life-like figures of people and animals of paper machette.
Enjoying the colorful pageant with the many parents and friends were three county supervisors. John Hayes, Mrs. Elizzabeth Miller and Mrs. Evadria Perry.
