BEAUTIFUL SETTING MARKS RITES OF JEANETTE DAVIS AND J. W. McCONNELL
Soft candlelight from tapers in tall candelabra intermingled with white larkspur, gladioli and potted palms added to the solemnity of the marriage vows of Mrs. Jeanette Davis, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Herbert H. Hastings, route 4, box 354, Anaheim, to J. W. McConnell, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles D. McConnell, 1142 West Santa Ana street, Anaheim last Friday evening at 7:30 o'clock, the Rev. Ray W. Ragsdale, pastor of the first Methodist church of Fullerton, reading the double-ring ceremony before more than 50 immediate relatives and close friends in the inner chapel of Capilla de San Antonio.
The bride, given in marriage by her father, carried a single orchid resting on a white prayer book.
Enhancing her brunette loveliness, the bride wore a striking gray costume suit accented by white accessories. Traditional sentiment was found in a handkerchief from the Philippines sent to Mrs. Hastings by her brothers during the first World War, and matching the blue tones of her accessories and lovely bracelet given to her by the groom.
Preluding the ceremony, Mrs. Ethel Hempshall sang "Always" and "At the Dawning" accompanied by Miss Alleda Miller at the piano. At the console of the organ, Mrs. A. F. Faust played the traditional wedding marches.
Serving as best man was Burl Gist. Frank Miller, Jr., uncle of the groom, was the usher.
The bride's attendants included Miss Rosalie Miller, niece of the groom, attired in a blue eyelit embroidered dress, wearing dainty pink flowers in her hair, and Miss Lillian Fitz, maid of honor wearing a brown suit accented by white accessories.
More than 50 guests greeted the newlyweds at the reception in Capilla de San Antonio's beautiful gardens immediately following the impressive ceremony. The bride's mother choosing for the occasion a smart navy blue dress with blue and white accessories. The groom's mother wore a floral print dress with pale pink background accented by white accessories.
After cutting and sharing the first piece of their three-tiered wedding cake which was topped by a military bridal couple, the new Mr. and Mrs. McConnell left for a week-end honeymoon at the groom's mountain cabin at Running Springs.
Miss Fitz presided at the guest book and Mrs. J. W. Johnson, aunt of the bride and the bride's mother, presided at the tea table.
Both the bride and bridegroom are natives of California. The new Mrs. McConnell attended Anaheim schools and graduated from Fullerton Junior college. Her bridegroom is associated with the McCoy Motor company.
The young couple will reside at 700 North Olive when their new home is constructed.
Pre-nuptial courtesies included a tea given by the groom's mother May 15 and a miscellaneous shower presented for the bride by Miss Fitz May 28.

Withhold not thou thy tender mercies from me O Lord: let thy lovingkindness and thy truth continually preserve me." This verse from the Psalms will be the Golden Text of the Sunday Lesson-Sermon on "God the Preserver of Man" in all branches of The Mother Church, The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston.
In a Bible citation from John's Gospel Jesus says, "Labour not for the meat which perisheth, but for that meat which endureth unto everlasting life, which the Son of man shall give unto you: for him hath God the Father sealed. Then saith they unto him, What shall we do, that we might work the works of God. Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that we believe on him whom he hath sent . . . Moses gave you not that bread from heaven; but my Father giveth you the true bread from heaven."
Mary Baker Eddy says in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures:" "I do not maintain that anyone can exist in the flesh without food and raiment; but I do believe that the real man is immortal and that he lives in Spirit, not matter." Movie ‘Shooting’ Congests Traffic
Pedestrians and motorists in the vicinity of Los Angeles and Center streets early Wednesday afternoon, their attention attracted by numerous officers and a crowd hovering outside a jewelry store, thought there had possibly been a holdup.
Investigation however, proved such was not the case. It merely was a motion picture group down from Hollywood shooting scenes for the forthcoming Mark Hellinger production, “Swell Guy.”
The movie people shot street scenes from the doorway of Hartfield’s Jewelry store on Center street; showing pedestrian and auto traffic.
The film, expected to be ready for exhibition in about 80 days will depict the return of a small town youth who rose to fame and fortune as a war correspondent only to become involved in trouble upon his arrival home.
His death in attempting to save a small child vindicates him in the eyes of the town.
John Goodman, director of unit production supervised the scene shooting. The picture is being directed by Frank Tuttle.
