CHRISTIAN SCIENCE
"Are Sin, Disease, and Death Real?" This question is the subject of the Sunday Lesson-Sermon in all branches of The Mother Church, The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston. The Golden Text is from the Psalms: "Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted within me? hope in God; for I shall yet praise him, who is the health of my countenance, and my God."
A Scriptural selection from Luke relates that "there was a man whose right hand was withered. And the scribes and the Pharisees watched" Jesus "whether he would heal on the sabbath day; . . . But he knew their thoughts, and said . . . unto them, I will ask you one thing; Is it lawful on the sabbath days to do good, or to do evil? to save life, or to destroy it? And . . . he said unto the man, Stretch forth thy hand. And he did so: and his hand was restored whole as the other."
In "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" Mary Baker Eddy says, referring to Jesus, "By parable and argument he explains the impossibility of good producing evil; and he also scientifically demonstrates this great fact, proving by what are wrongly called miracles, that sin, sickness, and death are beliefs—illusive errors—which he could
