‘Tournament of Lights’ Festival Set for Aug. 10
Consulting the state of the moon and tide, without benefit of astrologers and relying solely on official U. S. time and tide tables, the board of directors of the Newport Balboa “Tournament of Lights,” set August 10th next, as the date for California’s premier aquatic event for this year.
Not since “Pearl Harbor” has any public event taken place in Pacific waters, and a resumption of the ancient “Tournament of Lights,” as midsummer rivals of midwinter festivities is assured for this year. Governor Earl Warren will lead the parade.
The board of directors, composed of J. B. McNally, J. S. Barrett, Rubbard C. Howe, Donald Kemp, W. K. Murphy, W. B. Harper, Nelson Stafford, Felix Bangs, and Robert Murphy, set the date for what is predicted to be the greatest Corinthian event in Newport Harbor’s forty years of history.
All southern California’s private yachtsmen are invited to the great night party which will be resplendent with water borne lights and fireworks.
