NOTED PIANIST AND DESIGNER
ENTERTAIN AT EBELL TEA SATURDAY
"Painting for Mrs. American Public" was presented in a scintillating, vivacious manner by Annette Honeywell, excellent exponent of decorative design, to an audience of over 100 Saturday afternoon at the Ebell club of Anaheim's presentation of their special "Art Tea" in the clubrooms with Mrs. August E. Schumacher, president, opening the affair with a warm welcome to all.
Introducing the two artists was Mrs. Milton Sell, art chairman, with Mrs. Paul H. Demaree, social chairman, in charge of tea arrangements. Preluding the speaker, Florence Newkirk presented colorful piano interpretations with her opening selections by Choplin: "Harp 'Etude," "C-Sharpe Minor Waltz," "Fantasy Impromptu" and closing with three captivating numbers by Pento, Brazilian composer, from the "Scenes of Childhood;" "March Little Soldiers," "Cuckoo Clock Strickes Six," and "Run, Run."
Miss Honeywell injected the thought that this is the age of specialization, with each and every American a master in his own way, although the inclination may remain dormant. Known as "trailblazer in California art" she is an expert in designing wall papers, draperies, place mats, exotic gift wrapping, dress textiles and is an excellent photographer, her floral pictures being famous throughout the states. Abroad, her creative works include the designing of the beautiful "Wedgewood" china of London. Well known here are her famous "Desert Rose" dipnerware designs. Her dress goods creations are seen in Harper's Bazaar and many other magazines.
In harmony with her presentations, Miss Honeywell made a striking picture, gowned in black with vivid splashes of white waves and the rare "Ibus" bird, symbolic of the Amazon river, blended in lush cyclamen tones.
She exemplified her work with beautiful illustrations, including gay, clear, enchanting fabrics any woman would consider a treasure in her wardrobe. They were symbolic of far-away lands and the sunshine of California, including streamlined and decorative animals, bright birds, quaint costumed figurine borders and many more. Her work is a pleasure, she stated, by merely being in the spirit of beauty, and transplanting all this atmosphere in her own creative way.
The club members and guests will welcome Miss Honeywell back and in the heart of each attending was the desire for one of her exquisite prints, fashioned into an Easter ensemble. "All these fabrics are washable," she stated, "and will soon be seen in window displays throughout the Southland."
The fragrance of flowers intermingled with the golden afternoon sunshine, furthered the Ice Skating Party Set for G. S. Trooper.
