Hayden S. Sears, pastor of White Temple Methodist church, officiating. Entombment will be in Rose Hill Mausoleum. Born in Kentucky 70 years ago, she had resided in Anaheim for the past eight years. She was a life member of the Methodist church of Butler, Mo. Left to mourn her passing are her husband, J. W. McCormack of Anaheim; one son, T. A. McCormack of Los Angeles, and one grandson, William Howard McCormack, now in the Navy. Los Angeles county's 400 ceramics and gift ware plants produced over $25,000,000 worth of goods last year. USE 666 Cold Preparations Liquid, Tablets, Salve, Nose Drops Caution: use only as directed! AND THE FARMER DISTRICT PROTEIN MEAL restrictions on use of protein in manufacture of mixed feed for livestock and poultry issued Monday by the U. Department of Agriculture, in effort to prevent shortages in important livestock feeding areas of the country. Some feeding areas have been being short at the same time in other areas are over-supplied. Restrictions issued today seek to meet more equitable distribution among classes of users in all areas. The order budgets the use of protein meals among all users, in line with production goals for officials stated that it would promote an equitable distribution of available supplies by farmers and within the feed industry by regulating the amount of protein meal that may be used months and by classes of livestock. Accessibility for the order arises in the heavy drain on supplies protein feed because of the number of poultry on farms, year-record volume of cattle being this winter, and the feed of hogs to unusually heavy weights. At the same time, the supply protein feed is smaller this year than last largely because the 24 per cent reduction in 1945 crop of cottonseed. Last year, the supply of high-protein feeds was supplemented by imports from South America, but year supplies from this source not available. Heavy production of livestock products of all kinds in 1945 used the reserve inventories of protein meals that normally would information received from Dave Davidson, state director of the Field Service branch, Production and Marketing administration at Berkeley. They are: eggs, 164,962,000 dozen; hens on farms, as of March, 12,438,000; chickens raised, down 16 per cent from 1945, 19,987,000, and turkeys, slightly under last year, 4,542,000. The goal for eggs is approximately 5½ million dozen less than the 170,500,000 dozen required last year. This means that Orange county poultrymen will plan operations this year at a somewhat lower level than they followed last year, Griset said. Barring the feed problem, which shows no signs of easing up either as regards supplies or prices, until the 1946 grain crops are harvested, the year's outlook for California poultrymen, as signed up by the P & MA specialists and consultants in reaching the goal recommendations, is fairly reassuring, he added. Griset stated that reports gathered by the department show a trend toward a 1946 national egg production considerably above the established goals, which advise a 15 per cent reduction for egg and 17 percent fewer chickens, as compared with 1945. Falling off of military and lend-lease requirements and prospects that a more plentiful supply of red meat will reduce "civilian demands for eggs and poultry," are the reasons for the suggestions. Nevertheless, department figures show commercial hatcheries set a November record for baby chicks over any previous November in history. The hatch was 27 per cent above the same month in 1946. Orders for spring delivery of chicks were up 19 per cent on December 1, as against beet acreage is estimated at 2.2 million acres, compared with 2 million in 1944 and 2.9 million in 1938. Out of 188 refineries destroyed by the Germans, 168 have been repaired and rebuilt. The principal market for U. S. wheat prior to the war was the United Kingdom, which took about 30 per cent of the total, followed by Belgium and the Netherlands, each taking about 15 per cent, and Eire 10 per cent. During the war, Mexico became by far the largest importer of U. S. wheat, as grain. 'That Mabee Boy' Is Military Boss Of Part of Japan Continued from Page: peace so dearly won. They do. Dick Mabee was one of the first paratroopers to land in Japan, going in with the 11th Airborne division to prepare for MacArthur's arrival. He's still there, and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Mabee of Lincoln boulevard, have heard no indication of when he may return. Born in the Sierra Nevada mountains—at Westwood in Lassen county, where his father was superintendent for a timber company—the future MacArthur aide came to Anaheim at the age of 2½ years. He went through the Magnolia grammar school and graduated from Anaheim Union high school here, then attended Fullerton Junior college two years, before enlisting in the regular army as a private in 1934. UP FROM RANKS In competition with men from five states, he was one of 45 winners of the right to enter preparatory school for West Point at the same time, the supply protein feed is smaller this year than last largely because the 24 per cent reduction in 1945 crop of cottonseed. Last year, the supply of high-protein was supplemented by imports from South America, but year supplies from this source not available. heavy production of livestock products of all kinds in 1945 used the reserve inventories of meat meals that normally would be been built up last summer fall. The restrictions are a reinstatement and expansion of manufacturing and distribution controls finally issued in December, which were subsequently uged, from time to time, as movement was effected in provision and distribution of mixed meats, and finally terminated dur- 1945. Beginning immediately, no feed manufacturer may use more high-meal meal in making mixed for feeding livestock other poultry feeding than the quantity used for that purpose in corresponding calendar quarter of 1945. No person may use, in the manufacture of poultry feed, a larger quantity of protein meal than the sowing percentage of the quan- so used in the corresponding month of 1945: January and February, 1946—100 per cent; March, —95 per cent; April, 1946—per cent; other months—85 per cent. This limitation is in line with the 1946 goals calling for a per cent reduction in the proportion of eggs and a 17 per cent decrease in the number of chick-reared on farms. Another requirement is that no of protein meals may accept every of protein meals in any entity which causes his invention to exceed a 30-day supply upon his use of sales of meat meal during the corresponding calendar month of 1945. These and other requirements contained in a reissue of War Order No. 9, effective immediately. The new order exits small feed manufacturers, use 25 tons or less of pro- meals per calendar quarter, it does not exempt any person from the limitation against using more poultry feeds than made in the corresponding month of 1945. The order restricts the use of bile or ground beans in livestock and poultry feeds or ferment. It restricts the purchases and prospects that a more plentiful supply of red meat will reduce "civilian" demands for eggs and poultry, are the reasons for the suggestions. Nevertheless, department figures show commercial hatcheries set a November record for baby chicks over any previous November in history. The hatch was 27 per cent above the same month in 1943. Orders for spring delivery of chicks were up 19 per cent on December 1, as against the same date last year. All of which means that Orange county poultrymen will face usual occupational risks in 1946. Griset concludes, some fairly clear now, others not yet entirely forseable. The information given above should furnish preliminary guidance for prudent calculations and the Orange county committee will have further facts to offer as they develop. FIELD CROP GOALS Goals for California field crops were also received from Chairman Davidson, Stephen Griset announced. The acreage figures follow, together with the percentages up or down from last year's goals: Sugar beets, minimum acreage, 155,000, up 52 per cent; milo, maximum, 130,000, up 25 per cent; corn, minimum, 70,000, up 4 per cent; oats, minimum 535,000, up 3 per cent; barley, 1,800,000, approximately same; hay, 1,930,000, same (includes 1,003,000 acres alfalfa); wheat, 600,000, same; flax, minimum, 130,000, up 11 per cent; dry beans, minimum, 350,-000, up 7 per cent; Irish potatoes, early and late (includes 50,300 acres of early potatoes, on which the acreage goal is 31 per cent under last year) 94,000, down 20 per cent, and sweet potatoes, 12,-000, up one-third. MILK AND MEAT GOALS The goal for 1946 milk production is a minimum of 5,684,000,-000 pounds, with dairy herds totaling 795,000 cows suggested. This is about in line with 1945 herds and production. Minimum figures for meat animals call for 55,000 head of sows to farrow next spring (the fall goal is not yet set); 2,380,000 head of cattle and calves, 2 per cent under 1945; and 2,425,000 sheep and lambs, six per cent less than 1945 production. Farmers can expect the market demand for their products to stay pany—the future MacArthur aide came to Anaheim at the age of 2½ years. He went through the Magnolia grammar school and graduated from Anaheim Union high school here, then attended Fullerton Junior college two years before enlisting in the regular army as a private in 1934. UP FROM RANKS In competition with men from five states, he was one of 45 winners of the right to enter preparatory school for West Point, at Ft. Winfield Scott at San Francisco. A year of school there showed his fitness for the United States Military academy, and he graduated from West Point in 1940. Assigned to the infantry and stationed at various points in the United States, Mabee was scheduled for service in the Philippines when war came, and he was shifted to the Aleutian Islands. He was at Dutch Harbor when the Japs bombed it, and went through the battles of Adak and Attu During this time, he was promoted from Lieutenant to captain to major. VISIT AT FRISCO Returning to the United States Maybee attended the Infantry school at Ft. Banning, Ga., being assigned on graduation, to the paratroops and promoted to lieutenant colonel. Ordered to the Philippines little more than a year ago, he was met by his parents at San Francisco as he prepared to embark. That is the last visit they have had with him. Colonel Mabee moved from the Philippines to Japan with General MacArthur. His wife and baby daughter reside in Astoria, Ore., with her parents, pending Colonel Mabee's return from "riding herd on the Nips." The order restricts the use of cattle or ground beans in livestock and poultry feeds or ferments. It restricts the purchase of soybeans by any other than a processor, the commodity Credit Corporation, or a feed dealer, or a person buying the account of a processor, C., or a seed dealer. The order prohibits the use of flour, grits, or similar edible products of soybeans in the manufacture of livestock or poultry farms. The assistant administrator forulatory and marketing service of the Production and Marketing Administration is also authorized to impose set-aside requirements at such times and allowing such persons as he may be necessary or appropriate to implement the purpose of the order. The initial set-aside for the remainder of January, beginning the 16th is 5 per cent of the production of soybean, cottonseed, feed and peanut meal. An announcement will be made about January 25 regarding the per-ages that processors of these oils will be required to set aside in February. The order requires reports from processors and feed manufacturers necessary for the administration of the order. GROW AND POULTRY GOALS Goals set by the Department of Agriculture for California egg poultry production in 1946 were announced today by Stephen Set, chairman of the Orange County AAA committee, following this is about in line with 1945 herds and production. Minimum figures for meat animals call for 55,000 head of sows to farrow next spring (the fall goal is not yet set); 2,380,000 head of cattle and calves, 2 per cent under 1945; and 2,425,000 sheep and lambs, six per cent less than 1945 production. Farmers can expect the market demand for their products to stay pretty close to the present high level, at least throughout most of 1946, according to the Department of Agriculture's analysis of the situation. The people here at home couldn't buy all they wanted during 1945 because of rationing. So, even if the average consumer income does go down a little, the Department of Agriculture says there'll still be a big demand for most foods.
