Native Sons Plan For Preservation Of Old Landmarks
Preservation, marking and bringing under perpetual care some of Orange county's early landmarks was discussed at Tuesday night's meeting of Mother Colony parlor, Native Sons of the Golden West, held at the Elks club.
Since the north Orange county parlor has within its membership many pioneers and sons of pioneers, it was pointed out that it should take the lead in helping to preserve the county's historical relics and records.
Machinery for one phase of the program was set in motion with the appointment of Edward P. Backs, junior past president, to consult authorities on the necessary procedure regarding proper care for some of the landmarks which could not be technically regarded as private property. Backs will report back at the next regular meeting of the parlor.
Meanwhile, President Gerard Callens, who presided at Tuesday night's session, reported that a historical committee is being formed, drawn from the parlor's membership and headed by a well-known educator and member of a pioneer Orange county family who has made a study of early forms of preservation.

Office Opened in S. A. for Veterans Administration
With a nation-wide expansion under way, the National Veterans' administration is opening an office in Santa Ana that will be headed by James E. Mellon, field contact representative. Haying served two and one-half years in the Army in World War II Melon is acquainted with the serviceman's viewpoint and is well qualified to help the returning veterans with their many and varied problems.
Returning serviceman are frequently unfamiliar with the rights and benefits they are entitled to, Melon said, and it will be his job to see that they get factual information about these benefits that include hospitalization and outpatient treatment, government insurance, pensions for disability, vocational rehabilitation and educational opportunities.
The department is being established at room 516 in the First National bank building and veterans of all wars are invited to come and talk over their problems.
Meanwhile, President Gerard Callens, who presided at Tuesday night's session, reported that a historical committee is being formed, drawn from the parlor's membership and headed by a well-known educator and member of a pioneer Orange county family who has made a study of early history. Names of the committee will be announced shortly.
A class of candidates was initiated into the order at the parlor session, the impressive ritual being conducted by the local officers headed by President Callens.

Workers Advised Show Boss Social Security Card
The problem of social security withholding will become more complicated for the employers as the soldier, sailor or marine returns to civilian life and to the labor market, so "show your social security account card to every employer for whom you work" is the advice of the board managers. Another problem during the vacation season is the students who will seek jobs. They, too, are advised to show these cards.
This is essential to protect the worker's wage record, which is maintained under his name and number for his future monthly insurance benefits. Each employer is required to report the wage earner's earnings, under both his name and number, to the government every three months where the wages are credited to the individual ledger sheet.
All workers in industry and commerce should follow these rules:
1. Show your card to every employer for whom you work.
2. Make sure that he copies both your name and number correctly so that your wages may be credited to your account.
3. Hang on to your card. Don't lost it; but if you do lose it, get a duplicate. Never get a different number. Two numbers may cause some loss of wage credits and consequently of benefits. If you have more than one number, go to the nearest office of the social security board and see which one you should keep. You need only one number throughout life.
Aug. 19, starting at 12 noon. The convention will be a part of the annual Huntington Beach country
