Lt. Dick Parry Killed in Action On Western Front
Friends and relatives are this week mourning the loss of Richard "Dick" C. Parry who, according to a telegram from the War Department, gave his life in the service of his country on March 10. A popular graduate of the
40th Infantry Division Receives Commendation
The 40th Infantry division that has seen much action all through the Phillippine Island campaign is liberally sprinkled with Orange county men including members of Anaheim's former National Guard Company K, and thus it is with pride that residents are learning that the division has received special commendation for its fighting.
According to a 40th Infantry dispatch just released Major Gen. Rapp Brush, commanding general has officially named three ridges in the Zambales mountains in honor of the division's regiments which captured them from the Japanese. The regiments are the 108th of New York and the 160th and 185th, both of California.
Maj. Gen. O. W. Griswold, commanding general of the XIV corps, of which the 40th Infantry division is a part, has praised Gen. Brush's men for their action which opened the gateway to Manila, according to the release.
Beginning late in January, the 40th division fought continuously for more than a month, blasting the Japs from caves, tunnels, and mountain fortifications. Carrying the right flank of the liberation forces, the 40th fell heir to the difficult task of driving the Japs from the rugged ridges which dominate Fort Stotsenburg, Clark Field and central Luzon plains.

Casualty List Names One Killer And One Wounder
In a casualty list released the War department last Sgt. Delbert G. Adamson listed as killed and Pvt. Duran was reported wounded both legs and now on his home.
Sgt. Adamson, brother of Thomas E. Smith, Rt. 2, B. Anaheim, was killed at Twilight only three days after only three days of duty. He was with the Fiftees. His widow is Mrs. Adamson of Los Angeles.
For two years he trained the paratroopers and then transferred into the infantry entered the service in Janu- and had been overseas months.
Pvt. Duran is the husband Mrs. Helen Duran, Rt. 3, B. Anaheim and the son of Mrs. Tony Duran of Fullerton was wounded in action Febu- the Ruhr river in Germany is in the parachute infantry.
Five Anaheim Mines Inducted Through Fullerton Board
From the Fullerton Service board comes anment that five Anaheim men been inducted into the Arming March.
Registrants inducted are Anthony Bojorquiz, Con- Retarte, John Albert Mye thur John Van De Put Willard Dalton Morrow. seven registrants were in all.

Beverley Wilson Completes Wave Training in Okla.
Beverly Evelyn Wilson of Anaheim who is serving in the Waves, has graduated from the U.S. Naval Training School (Yeoman), Stillwater, Okla.. Eleventh Naval District officials said today.
Upon graduation she received the rating of seaman first class, and has been assigned to duty at the Navy's Advanced Base Personnel Depot, San Bruno.
Her mother, Mrs. Dorothy E. Jameson, resides at 549 S. Indiana street.
Weasel and Plane Named After Anaheim Hi-School
An Army training plane and a "Weasel," a tank-like vehicle, are both being named "Anaheim Union High School" for both machines were made possible with war bonds bought by the students during the Sixth War Loan drive.
The "Weasel" was made possible as a result of $4,815 worth of bonds while the trainer plane is priced at $15,000 and the money came from A.U.H.S.
AWARDED BRONZE MEDAL
Stephen P. Schaffer, formerly employed by the Anaheim municipal light, water and power department, has recently received the Bronze Star Medal for distinguishing himself by meritorious service with the East China Wing of the 14th Air Force. He is a telephone lineman and repairman with the wing communications section. His wife, Elizabeth, is employed at the Parker House on East Center street and, during her husband's absence, is making her home in Garden Grove with her parents.
RECEIVES COMMISSION
March 22 was a great day in the
Lt. Parry enlisted in the Army in September, 1943 and received infantry training at Camp Roberts. It was at Ft. Benning, Georgia that he received his commission and late last summer he went overseas. In December he was wounded and received the Purple Heart. He had only been back on duty a short time when he lost his life. He was a member of Patch's Seventh Army and was in the 103rd Division.
Besides his wife and parents he is survived by a brother, Eugene who is now serving in the Pacific with the U.S. Navy and a younger brother and sister.
His father is a veteran of World War I and is an active member of the Anaheim chapter of the American Legion.
After graduating from the Anaheim High school Lt. Parry attended Fullerton Junior college until he enlisted.
Ruptured Appendix Causes Death of Young Seaman
Mrs. Etta Coolidge, 627 North Zeyn street, has received the tragic news that her 19 year-old son, Seaman Second Class Robert Harold Coolidge, died at sea, Jan. 14 of a ruptured appendix.
He was aboard a destroyer and had participated in all the major battles in the Pacific theater of operations since he went overseas more than a year ago, with the exception of action around the Philippines at which time he was ill.
He attended Anaheim Union High school prior to entering the Navy.

Games One Killed
and One Wounded
In a casualty list released by the War department last Friday, Delbert G. Adamson was listed as killed and Pvt. Albert Duran was reported wounded in both legs and now on his way home.
Sgt. Adamson, brother of Mrs. Thomas E. Smith, Rt. 2, Box 143, Anaheim, was killed at Two Jima over only three days of combat. He was with the Fifth Marines. His widow is Mrs. Ruth Adamson of Los Angeles.
For two years he trained with the paratroopers and then was transferred into the infantry. He entered the service in Jan. 1942 and had been overseas for six months.
Pvt. Duran is the husband of Mrs. Helen Duran, Rt. 3, Box 363, Anaheim and the son of Mr. and Mrs. Tony Duran of Fullerton. He was wounded in action Feb. 8 near Ruhr river in Germany. He in the parachute infantry.
Five Anaheim Men Inducted Through Fullerton Board
From the Fullerton Selective Service board comes announcement that five Anaheim men have been inducted into the Army during March.
Registrants inducted are Ralph Anthony Bojorquiz, Concepcion Starte, John Albert Myers, Arthur John Van De Putte and William Dalton Morrow. Forty-even registrants were inducted all.

Curried Eggs and Peas
in Noodle Ring
1 tablespoon salt
12 cups boiling water
1 6-oz. pkg. noodles
2 tablespoons butter or margarine
3 tablespoons flour
% teaspoon curry powder
% teaspoon salt
Few groins pepper
1 ½ cups milk
6 hard-cooked eggs
1 cup cooked or canned peas
Parsley
Add 1 tablespoon salt to water; gradually add noodles. Boil 9 min., stirring occasionally. Melt butter or margarine; blend in flour, curry powder, % teaspoon salt and peppers. Gradually add milk. Cook over boiling water, stirring constantly, until thick. Cut eggs in quarters, lengthwise; add with peas to sauce. Heat. Drain noodles; shape in a ring on serving plate; fill with egg mixture. Garnish with parsley. Serves 4.
