ANAHEIM GAZETTE Salvation Army Financial Drive Starts Monday Engaged in a global war program on 23 battle fronts in addition to greatly expanded activities at home due to war-related problems the Salvation Army is starting its annual appeal for funds on Monday, April I, it was revealed today by O. H. Renner, chairman of the local sponsoring committee. "We are asking that residents respond generously," he said, "and that they will add at least 25 percent to their contemplated contribution for war work." Due to manpower, gas and tire shortages, personal contacts will be difficult to make, he said, and urges that donations be mailed to O. E. Hanson, treasurer, care Bank of America, Anaheim, or that they be taken directly to him. Besides Renner and Hanson others serving on the local sponsoring committee are Harry I. Horn, Charles S. Smith, Lotus H. Loudon, Rev. Thomas L. Burden, Robert H. Boney, Victor G. Loly, H. G. Merrill, Earle Woodward and Wilson W. Phelps. The Salvation Army is doing a great deal of work among delinquent youths, unwed mothers and in giving spiritual and financial help to servicemen's families. While it is a member agency of the National USO, and assigns personnel for operational purposes to its many units, it derives no monetary benefit from War Chest campaigns for its own operations. Chairman Renner states that a substantial portion of the money raised will remain with the committee to be used in meeting social problems and emergencies.
