Concurrently a rise in military lumber requirements is beginning. Wheat and cotton growers who shift to other war-time crops to help meet food production goals will not lose their right to wheat and cotton allotments under Congressional order. WFA gives special attention to the sick in hospitals in obtaining a share of the tight butter and chicken supplies. Potato growers are warned to get seed early as supply and transportation difficulties may cross up late orders. Canadian wheat will continue to have support price of $1.25 a bushel but payment will not be made for more than the individual grower's quota of 14 bushels per acre. Limitation is to encourage Canadian oats and barley production. Addition of a small quantity of anti-oxidant to the flesh of a peach prior to processing prevents fruit discoloration when exposed to air. This new method probably will be used for nectarines, apricots, sweet cherries, plums and prunes. Citrus data: California leads the nation in orange production. Forecast of 1944-45 crops is over 56 million packed boxes, (three-fifths Valencias; two-fifths Navel and miscellaneous.) This tops 49 million boxes average 1941-44. California lemon production is forecast at over 12 million boxes. California grapefruit production is topped by Florida, Texas, and Arizona, the other grapefruit-producing states... Wool production is down because sheep numbers in the United States have been declining. About nine percent less sheep were shorn in 1944 than in 1943. Food Processing And Cold Storage Locker Meeting Answer to some of the questions about how to process food for storing in freezing compartments or how to build a home cold storage box will be given at a series of demonstrations next week under the auspices of the Agricultural Extension Service, according to W. M. Cory, assistant farm advisor. The schedule of demonstration meetings is as follows: March 27, 2:00 p.m., Farm Bureau Hall, Orange (355 S. Main St.;) 7:30 p.m., Assembly Room, Fullerton City Hall. March 28, 2:00 p.m., Westminster Grammar School, Westminster; 7:30 p.m., Capistrano High School, Capistrano. Processing and packaging of food for cold storage will be discussed by Miss Frances Liles, home demonstration agent. Construction and operation of freeze boxes will be discussed by W. M. Cory, assistant farm advisor. The cold storage of a wide variety of fruits and vegetables as well as meats is possible where proper processing methods are followed. It is an increasingly popular way of storing food because of the high retention of the original flavors and food values. All interested are invited to attend. HAS BIBLE CLASS PARTY Mr. and Mrs. M. M. Bank of America Behind Gl Vet Loan Plan At a meeting of Bank of America branch managers representing the Citrus Area Group the procedure for handling VET-LOAN PLAN, small business loans, and aircraft financing were presented, reports O. E. Hanson, manager of the bank's Anaheim branch, who attended the conference at Whittier. The principal speakers on the program were A. J. Gock, vice-chairman of the bank's board of directors, and E. A. Mattison, executive vice president, who clearly outlined to the group the policy of Bank of America to lend its every resource in assisting the veteran to obtain the full benefits of the GI bill. Bank of America has the distinction of having made the first business loan and the first real estate loan on an existing residence in Southern California under the terms of the GI bill. The bank was one of the first in the South to make a loan for the construction of a new house under GI bill regulations. Through group meetings, branch managers and officers share the benefits of the practical experience gained in processing veteran loans.
