Anaheim’s Own Company K Helps Free Philippines
A recent news dispatch from the Philippines disclosed the fact that Anaheim’s own National Guard Company K has taken an active part in the liberation of the Philippines and when the Anaheim boys come home they will have many a stirring tale to tell as a result.
The dispatch revealed that the 40th Infantry Division, comprised partially of two former California National Guard infantry regiments and two field artillery battalions, is in action on Luzon. The 40th Division has already seen duty in Hawaiian Islands and the South Pacific including New Britain.
The division was first born during World War I and took part in the last days of fighting in France. It was inducted into Federal service March 3, 1941 when National Guard units from California and Utah reported for training to Camp San Luis Obispo, California. California units in the division included the following: an infantry regiment and a medical battalion from Los Angeles and vicinity, an infantry regiment from Central and Southern California, two field artillery battalions from East San Francisco Bay area, a signal company from San Francisco and a quartermaster comapny from Berkeley.
The infantry regiment from Central California represents the cities and surrounding communities of Sacramento, Fresno, Riverside, Visalia, Oakdale, Turlock, Hanford, Pasadena, Monrovia, Pomona, Ontario, Anaheim, Santa
