Farewell Open House Honors
Lt. Charles Schutz
Awaiting assignment to duty outside the continental limits of the United States Lt. (Dr.) Charles V. Schutz of 602 North Zeyn street is this week completing his present assignment as acting dental officer for the Naval V-12 training unit at the University of southern California.
Last Sunday evening Lt. and Mrs. Schutz held open house so that their many friends would have an opportunity of extending farewell greetings. For the occasion the hostess wore an informal dark blue afternoon dress with a shoulder corsage of red, white and blue flowers.
The patriotic motif was further carried out at the buffet table where a beautiful floral arrangement of red roses, white stock and blue delphinium centered the table while small American flags flew from each individual cake. Mrs. Llewellyn Wilson, Mrs. Everett Cone and Mrs. Howard Tews presided at the tea and coffee urns.
Mrs. Schutz was assisted in hostess duties by her mother, Mrs. R. J. Harvey and her two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Ted Payne and Mrs. E. L. Anderson.
Lt. Schutz entered the navy in March, 1943, and first served in San Diego and later at the University of California at Los Angeles and the University of Southern California. It was from the latter that he took his dentistry degree after having attended Anaheim schools and graduated from the Anaheim Union High school. Upon completion of his schooling
P.-T. GROUPS OBSERVE FOUNDER’S DAY AND HONOR LOCAL POST PRESIDENTS
Past presidents of four elementary school Parent Teacher’s associations and national founders were honored last week when Founder’s Day was observed at Horace Mann, George Washington, Benjamin Franklin and Broadway schools. Each meeting included presentation of bouquets and corsages to the honored guests, interesting programs and a social tea hour. Nominating committees were appointed and will report at the next meetings.
At Horace Mann past presidents honored were Mrs. Faye Walker, Mrs. J. A. Lukota, Mrs. K. D. Figgins, Mrs. Arthur Kemper, Mrs. B. E. Baumbach and Mrs. Leo Friis. Besides corsages each was presented with a dainty handkerchief, the former by Mrs. Cortez Hoskins, Founder’s Day chairman, and the latter by Mrs. Homer Hurst, as a token of appreciation from the organization. Mrs. Richard Roehm, president, presided.
Leo Friis was the speaker for the afternoon and gave an interesting and amusing story of the history of Anaheim while members from the fifth and sixth grades presented several folk dances and songs.
Featuring the tea hour was a large birthday cake decorated in purple and gold presented by Mrs. Roehm. The same color motif was carried out in the table appointments while Mrs. J. A. Lukota and Mrs. K. D. Figgins poured. Third grade mothers were hostesses.

Past presidents honored at Benjamin Franklin were Mrs. R. W. Elsner, Mrs. Jack Gledhill, Mrs L. N. Wisser, Mrs. A. P.M.Brown Mrs. R.C.Hein, Mrs.E.C.Westernkuhler, Mrs.George Holden Mrs.E.H.Kersten and Mrs.Emory Simon. A life membership pin was presented to Miss Beryl Kennedy.
Mrs. John J.Vernon, president of the Santa Ana P.T.A.council and treasurer of the district association was the featured speaker and talked on “Founders’ Influence in Our Town.” Sixth grade students presented an interesting skit, “Our American Flag.” Mrs Elmer Peter, soloist and Mrs Jo Weaver, accompanist presented the song, “The Lord’s Prayer” by Malotte.
A delightful tea hour concluded the affair with Mrs Marvin and Miss Anna Clark presiding at the tea urns. The table was beautifully appointed with peach blossoms and valentine hearts and each past president was presented with a lovely red and white sweetpea corsage.

Investure Service Held For Brownie Troop at Broadway
Twenty-one little girls, their faces glowing with happiness and their eyes shining with purpose, solemnly gave the Brownie pledge of service Monday afternoon when an investiture ceremony was held for the Brownie Troop at Broadway school. The ceremony was conducted by Mrs. Wiel Hobbs who was assisted by Mrs. Fiscus, leader, and Miss Margaret Simpson, assistant leader. Highlight of the flower decked mirror ritual, representing the fairy queen's pool, came when each girl received her pin after which the group gave the Brownie pledge.
Following the pledge of allegiance to the flag the Brownies sang "My Country 'Tis of Thee" and the "Brownie Song."
Miss Marie Von Kanel, executive secretary of the Girl Scouts, then talked to the group on the singificance of International Day that will be observed at Fremont school auditorium on the evening of March 15.
A brief social hour followed at which time Mrs. Fiscus and Mrs. Hobbs served punch and cookies to the mothers, guests and Brownies. The afternoon's program concluded with the Brownies singing their goodnight song.

Committees Named For Junior Ebell Red Cross Benefit
Combining pleasure with helping a worthy cause members of Junior Ebell will again hold their annual Red Cross benefit and bridge fashion show on Saturday afternoon, March 10 at the Ebell clubhouse. The affair will start at 1:30 o'clock and reservations are being made with Mrs. S. L. Keith; telephone 4875 and Mrs. Paul Doyle, telephone 3601.
Committees were named this week by the Junior's president, Mrs. Richard Clark. They include Mrs. Louise Dickenson, decorations; Miss Lucille Bruneskie and Miss Betty Dammers, raffle; Miss Elizabeth Ann Carroll, card appointments; Mrs. William Cook, refreshments and Mrs. George Tokar, serving.
Mrs. Ray Ringwald, past president of the group and present president of the Orange County Federation of Junior Women's clubs, will be in charge of the fashion show and will act as commentator.
The young women's group have held a benefit afternoon party each spring for many years but for the several past years the party has held the added inventive of aiding the Red Cross and last year, as a result of the successful affair, almost $100 was turned over to the American Red Cross to help swell the total of Anaheim's quota. Tickets are $1 each including the tax.

Hears Talk By Mrs.
L. E. Sutherland
Mrs. Lawrence E. Sutherland Los Alamitos Bay, formerly Anaheim and Pasadena, was guest speaker at the recent For District Parent Teachers' Association meeting held in San Ana Ebell clubhouse. Mrs. Sutherland is fourth vice-president; the state association and director of public welfare for the California congress.
Mrs. Sutherland is well known in Anaheim where she was merely a member of the Anaheim Union High school faculty and visor of the Girl Reserves husband was "Coach" Sutherland at the high school at the same time.
MARINERS BOARD MEETS
Mr. and Mrs. Gene Siegler were hosts to the Mariner's board of directors recently at which plans were made for several interesting future events including a dinner at Knott's Berry farm; the new and old boards and celebration of the organization's anniversary. The next general meeting will be held on March 16.
STATE PICNIC
The Nebraska State society's annual "Admission Day" picnic be held this Saturday, Feb. 22 Bixby Park, Long Beach and Cornhuskers are invited to attend Rev. Ernest Beam, native of atrice, Nebr., will be the prime speaker and the municipal lodge will furnish the music. Free food will be served with badges.

Shower Given In Honor of Mrs. Mabel Ruske Tuesday
Mrs. Mabel Ruske of Anaheim was honored Tuesday night by Mrs. Monica Hatfield and Mrs. Letha Sutton of Anaheim when they held a layette shower for her at the home of Mrs. Richard Rivers, 234 East Commonwealth ave., Fullerton.
During the early evening hours a group of games appropriate to the occasion were enjoyed by the guests with prizes being awarded to Mrs. John King of Fullerton and Mrs. Jean Lampher of Orange.
The honoree was then presented with many attractively wrapped gifts.
At the refreshment hour guests were seated around a large table attractively decorated in a pink and white motif. Dainty sweetpeas in a baby bottle vase was set on a large table mirror and surrounded by baby shoe candleholders and lighted tapers.
Those present besides the hostesses, honoree and Mrs. Rivers were the Mesdames Florence Peet, Mildred Ferrel, Ethel Alford, Bessie Chaplin, Ina Gathas, Albert Rees, Sarah Palamorie, Dee Dolphin, Margaret Requarth and Ann Chambers of Anaheim; Irene and Hazel King of Fullerton; Forestine Latham of Long Beach and Jean Lampher of Orange.
Anaheim Lodge Woman Elected To District Office
Mrs. Berthyle Reisinger of the Lois Rebekah lodge was elected district deputy president last Friday night at a short business session in the Odd Fellow's lodge rooms that preceded a formal reception given in honor of the present district deputy president, Mrs. Viola Arnett of Westminster and the deputy marshall, Mrs. Nell Morgan. More than 150 attended the affair.

So. Calif-Mariners Regatta In Orange April 28-29
Mariners from all Southern California will gather in Orange on April 28 and 29 for a regatta and the Anaheim and Santa Ana clubs will assist the host chapter it was revealed this week following a joint meeting Tuesday night when 20 members from the Anaheim organization were guests of the Orange Presbyterian church.
The Anaheim group was heartily welcomed by the Orange skippers, Mr. and Mrs. James Bryant. The evening's program included solos by Mrs. Frederick Stanley George and Jimmy Jay of Anaheim. The speaker for the evening was Rev. Davenport, returned missionary from Venzuela, who emphasized the importance of religious printed matter. Following his talk he was presented with a $100 check to aid in purchase of a printing press. The check was given by members of the Orange group.
The evening was concluded with a social hour. Enjoying the affair from Anaheim were Mr. and Mrs. J. P. Mary, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Curtis, Mr. and Mrs. Jimmy Jay, Mr. and Mrs. Gene Seifried, Mr. and Mrs. Harwood Larson, Mr. and Mrs. Forrest Simonton, Mr. and Mrs. Rod Craven, Rev. and Mrs. Stanley F. George, Mrs. Ruth Guerin and Mrs. Jessie Wood.
Teachers Guests Of Trustees At Valentine Party
Teachers of the elementary school faculty, their husbands and wives, were guests of the board of trustees and Mr. and Mrs. M. A. Gauer at a reception last Thursday evening in the Ebell clubhouse. Approximately 80 guests enjoyed the affair that was hosted by Mr. and Mrs. Harry Borden and Miss Robbie Anderson in addition to Mr. and Mrs. R. Fox, Mr. and Mrs. Vincent W. Gauer.
The reception was followed with a game of "hearts" and at the conclusion of play prizes were awarded Miss Alice Williamson and Walter A. Schmitt for high scores.

The honored guests spoke briefly to lodge members after being presented with lovely corsages by Mrs. Clara Burns, noble grand of the Lois lodge.
For the occasion Mrs. Arnett wore a lovely soft blue formal frock while Mrs. Morgan wore a similar one of taffeta only in a deeper shade of blue. This was the second and last official visit of the year of the two high lodge officers. Mrs. Arnett will conclude her year's term of office in June when Mrs. Reisinger will succeed her.
The Misses Gloria and Betty Saunders entertained with several dances and the evening was concluded with a social hour. The dining room was beautifully decorated in yellow and orchid and the table was centered with a lovely floral centerpiece and lighted with tall yellow tapers. Mrs. Maggie Myers was chairman of the refreshment committee.
Several important future events were announced including the all day district meeting at Fullerton on March 7. A card party will be held on the evening of Feb. 21 and on Feb. 27 the Thimble club will meet with Mrs. Violet Howard on South Citron street.

Jr. Ebell Bridge Section Held At Fullerton Home
An enjoyable evening was spent Tuesday by members of the Anaheim Junior Ebell Contract bridge section when they met at the home of Miss Bobette Stein in Fullerton. Mrs. George Tokar of Anaheim was co-hostess.
Members enjoyed a dessert course served early in the evening at small tables centered with spring bouquets of sweetpeas. At the conclusion of play awards for high scores went to Mrs. Allen Wallace and Miss Elizabeth Ann Carroll.
The section will next meet on March 27, the place to be announced later.

District P.T.A. Wars Talk By Mrs. E. Sutherland

World War I Vet Dies at Sawtelle After Long Illness
Funeral services under the auspices of Anaheim post, Veterans of Foreign Wars were held yesterday afternoon at the Backs, Campbell and Kaulbars chapel for Joseph A. (Jack) Trendle, 65, who passed away last Saturday at the veteran's home in Sawtelle. Interment was made in Loma Vista cemetery. The family home is at 420 North Claudina street.
The deceased became ill about a year ago and at that time resigned his post as bailiff in superior court where he had served for six years.
He was a veteran of World War I and was an active member in the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Moose Lodge of Santa Ana, and was secretary of the Anaheim Electrical Worker's union for several years. He was an expert in small arms.
Born in Calumet, Mich., he came to Orange County when he was 2 years old. He is survived by his wife, Ida C. Trendle and a brother, Frank Trendle of Anaheim.
A simple wartime dessert that is easy to prepare, appealing to children and one that saves sugar is sliced navel oranges, suggests the Sunkist Kitchen. If additional sweetening is desired add honey and a dash of cinnamon.
Will of Mrs. Gesine Heinemann Filed In Superior Court
A son, three daughters and three grandchildren will benefit under terms of the will of the late Mrs. Gesine Heinemann of Anaheim who passed away recently at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Martha Felleman, Pasadena. Her will disposing of real and personal properties "in excess of $10,000" was filed this week for probate in superior court.
To receive one-fifth each are Herman Carl Heinemann, Dalton, Neb.; Mrs. Martha Felleman, Pasadena; Mrs. Mary Hegwer, Emerson, Neb., and Mrs. Emma Francisco, Lynwood, Cal. Three children of a deceased son will share the other fifth. They are Irene Heinemann, San Diego; Esther Heinemann, Fallon, Neb.; and Harvey Heinemann, Pender, Neb.
Two sons, Rudolph Heinemann of Pender, Neb. and August Heinemann of Thurston, Neb. will receive $5 each since their mother said they had already had their shares of the estate. The will also disclosed that she has advanced various sums ranging from $4,000 to $9,300 to her other children and she ordered that these sums be deducted from their portions of the property when the division is made.
