CHRISTIAN SCIENCE
LESSON TEXT ON "TRUTH"
"We can do nothing against the truth but for the truth." Thus spake Paul to the Corinthians according to the Golden Text of the Sunday Lesson-Sermon on "Truth" in all branches of The Mother Church; The First Church of Christ; Scientist; in Boston.
Matthew reports that "Jesus went about all Galilee," teaching in their synagogues; and preaching the gospel of the kingdom; and healing all manner of sickness and all manner of disease among the people." In his Sermon on the Mount Jesus said, "Blessed are the poor in spirit; for their's is the kingdom of heaven." Blessed are they that mourn; for they shall be comforted. Blessed are the meek for they shall inherit the earth. Blessed are they which do hungle and thirst after righteousness; for they shall be filled."
Writing on this subject Man Baker Eddy says in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures:" "The spiritual sense of truth must be gained before Truth can be understood. This sense assimilated only as we are honeys unselfish, loving, and meek." "I order to apprehend more; we must put into practice what we already know."
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my official seal the day and year in this certificate first above written, MILDRED L. LUKENS Notary Public in and for said County and State.

Interesting Story Of China Told to Lions Members
With a background of knowledge gained from forty years residence in mysterious China, Rev. E. Kelhofer, now of Burbank, brought a first-hand story of the Chinese situation to the Anaheim Lions club members at Friday's noon luncheon meeting. He was introduced by Lion Sam Hilgenfeld, a former college mate whom he had not seen until recently since he sailed for China in 1904 to become a teacher and business manager of an American college in Shanghai.
When the Japs occupied that portion of China Rev. and Mrs. Kelhofer became prisoners of the Japanese and were finally returned to this country on the second trip of the exchange ship Gripsholm.
In his address he gave the inside story of why Chinese armies are fighting each other instead of fighting the Japs, which condition had its beginning when the present ruler, Chang Kai-Snek, then a Communist, started a military conquest of China in 1926. He later sold himself out to the monied interests and turned the army he led against the group of which he had set himself up as the leader.
After the Chinese nation had been under the rule of foreign powers from 1614 to 1911 Dr. Sun Yat Sen overthrew the Manchus and became the great liberator of his own people. Great Britain and France both had designs on China, he said, while the United States played a “hands off” role, so in desperation Sun Yat Sen Victor Loly was chairman of the meeting.

Never-Sweat Club Names ‘Vic’ LaMont President for 1945
The annual meeting of the “Never Sweat” club was held recently at the clubhouse and “Vic” LaMont was named president of this active group of men who meet each day and Wednesday nights at the Anaheim City park for recreational pleasures of checkers, cards, horseshoe and shuffleboard. George Trout was elected secretary-treasurer and “Matt” Higgins, custodian of property.
The club was first formed in 1928 and consisted of 36 members who met in one of the park’s palm thatched shelters. Now the club has a membership of 138 and its own clubhouse on the park grounds. In 1931 the old park kitchen was remodelled to accommodate this self administering group. Each member has his own key to the clubhouse.

After the Chinese nation had been under the rule of foreign powers from 1614 to 1911 Dr. Sun Yat Sen overthrew the Manchus and became the great liberator of his own people. Great Britain and France both had designs on China, he said, while the United States played a “hands off” role, so in desperation Sun Yat Sen turned to Russia for help in 1921, hence the Communistic influence in China.
Incidentally Chiang Kai Shek was one of the three under-studies whom Sun Yat Sen had chosen to carry on his program of democratic reform. One of the three died shortly after Sun Yat Sen’s passing in 1921, the second was framed into a minor role by Chiang Kai Shek who himself donned the mantle of Sun Yat Sen’s power and became a ruthless military leader.
When Chiang sold out to the big money interests the more conservative leaders in the Communist group plead with him to unify all of China in one great movement to oust the Japs from their country, all to no avail. Chiang and some of his military leaders, instead, turned their organized army against the Communists who were forced into the barren north country where they have stood off the Chiang army and at the same time made great strides in improving the country, as well as raising the standard of the people.
“The Communists are the Chinese patriots who are keeping Japan from taking over China,” the speaker said, “and they are not 'red,' and not even 'pink' but they have built up the best part of China in the worst section of the country,” he continued.
“Other sections of the world have a misunderstanding of the Communists in China, as well as in Russia, and fail to see the trend toward real democracy that is behind the present day Communist movement,’ he said.
Rev. Kelhofer believes now, however, that the Communists have finally convinced Chiang Kai Shek that the only hope for China is in the unity of all the people, and that very soon China will present a solid front and drive the Japs from their soil.
