Chinese Pastor Sees Modernized Nation After War
Members of the Anaheim Rotary Club listened to an interesting lecture on China at Monday noon's luncheon meeting at the Elks club house when Dr. Philip Lee, pastor of the Presbyterian Chinese church in Los Angeles was the speaker of the day.
Touching upon the political situation in China Dr. Lee told his listeners that China is divided between the Central government, a democratic group, and another group known as Communists. This situation has contributed to the problems China has faced in carrying on the long war against the Japanese invaders. A semblance of unity has been maintained, however, due to the Chinese conviction that each of the 100 family name groups are related, which brings about a family unity embracing the entire population.
China's manpower is great, Dr. Lee said, and with her population of 500-million people he believes she can defeat Japan, provided war materials and technical help is furnished by America. He believes the Chinese nation will become a modern country very rapidly following the war.
Dr. Erwin Kersten, John Dwyer, and LeRoy Ater were extended birthday greetings. President George Hedstrom presided at the meeting.
Religious Instruction on Released Time Begins In City Schools Next Monday
Religious instruction on released time will begin in all public schools of Anaheim, Monday, September 25. Approximately 1500 boys and girls will participate in the new program, including the high school. The parents of more than ninety percent of the school children have made written requests of the school boards favoring the inauguration of released time.
By state law each pupil is permitted one hour a week for this instruction. In Anaheim there will be only two groups, Protestant and Catholic. The protestant pupils will go to the nearest church or to homes adjacent to the schools. The Catholic pupils will go to St. Boniface school or to homes adjacent to the schools. The Ministerial Union working with the Lockman Foundation will sponsor the Protestant program; the Catholic church will sponsor its program. In both groups only Bible trained teachers give the instruction; the teachers also having teaching credentials comparable to public school teachers. The latest and best teaching methods are used. The Bible is the text book. The Bible classes are graded to correspond with the grades in school. The courses are entirely free of denominational emphasis.

The Golden Text is from James: “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.”
In his Gospel John writes, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. . . All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.” This selection from Ecclesiastes is also included in the Lesson-Sermon, “I know that, whatsoever God doeth, it shall be for ever: nothing can be put to it, nor any thing taken from it. . . That which hath been is now; and that which is to be hath already been; and God requireth that which is past.”
Mary Baker Eddy says in “Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures:” “The Bible declares: ‘All things were made by Him (the divine Word); and without Him was not anything made that was made.’ This is the eternal
