Santa Ana, and wound up the day with a political rally at the Greek Theatre in Anaheim. Houser, accompanied by his wife, Dorothy Houser, made the Orange county tour with William Spurgeon in charge of the southern section and Albert Launer directing affairs in Anaheim. Mrs. Florence Stevens, chairman of the women's division for Orange county, assisted in planning the local campaign. Houser, in his speech here, was critical of what he termed Senator Sheridan Downey's "abject failure in representing California in the United States Senate," and pointed to Downey's record of absenteeism during the five and a half years Downey has been in office. "He has missed 43 per cent of the senate roll calls during his term in office, and he missed 52 per cent of the roll calls during the two war years of 1942 and 1943," Houser declared. "California is deserving of better than half time representation." Houser told his audience that concentration of authority in Washington in the hands of a few bureaus and bureau chiefs must be "stopped dead in its tracks" at the November election if the American form of government is to continue. Six acts of vaudeville were presented in connection with the rally. Family Pet Dog Dies From Rabies The cocker spaniel dog of Mr. and Mrs. Ted Kirkhart of Mills Drive developed, what they at first thought to be distemper, rabies and through the quick action of Mr. and Mrs. Kirkhart, averted serious injury to their three-year-old son, James Lynn, who, with his parents was in the fenced area of the yard when a spasm overtook the pet. The dog suddenly started writhing with spasms, frothing and throwing of the head with all the symptoms of the disease. Mrs. Kirkhart held the animal by the shoulders while Mr. Kirkhart took the child from the pen. As the dog broke from her grasp, she also left the yard. Homes in the war housing center are ready for immediate occupancy and those eligible may be regular employees of the city, county, U. S. Postal Service or federal government, including firemen, policemen, etc.; registered nurses, or teachers with the board of education. Also regular employees of the following firms are eligible to purchase the houses: Southern Counties Gas Co., Southern California Edison Co., Shaffer Tool Works, at Brea; Hunt Brothers, Fullerton; Southern Pacific Railroad and Freight Lines; Graham Brothers of Orange; Anaconda Wire and Cable Co., Orange; Mutual Citrus Products, Anaheim; Consolidated-Vultee or Douglas Aircraft plants, Anaheim.
